It seems we all have a John Gifford that we can't trace. My gggrandfather was John Gifford. He was alledgedly born in Vermont in 1809. According to a Bible record his father (?), who was also alledgedly from Vermont, moved to Canada. His mother's name was Pauline Herrington? Gifford and she is buried here in Akron, Ohio as well as . I have not been able to find any records of them in Bennington Co., Vermont, where they are supposed to be from. The next thing in the Bible record after the statement that John's father moved to Canada, indicates that John shows up in Niagara County, and marries the daughter of Nancy Hewitt and Capt. Mathias Kline, Phebe. Phebe and John had the following children: Charles, Harriett, Rosanna, Horace, Nellie & John Byron. There are a lot of John Giffords out there, and this has been one of them!
