Hi kind souls, I am hopeful that one of you might be able to help me determine the parentage of my wife's ancestor [William Gifford (b. abt. 1756 in NY - d. August 15, 1846 in Erie Co., PA)]. One possibility that has been suggested is that he is a son of William Gifford ( William Gifford b. 1720 in Falmouth, Barnstable Co., MA - d. ? in Dutchess Co. NY), but no proof is known if this is indeed the case. This latter William was in turn said to be a son of Jabez Gifford (b. 1686 in Falmouth, MA 6 d. 1738 - d. 1761 in Dutchness Co., NY) and grandson of William Gifford (b. 1656 in Falmouth, MA - d. 1738 in Falmouth, MA). Can you help me prove or disprove this possible connection? If you cannot help directly, can you please suggest how I might learn the identity of the children of the subject William Gifford b. 1720.
