Gifford, born Utica, Oneida County, NY, 28th April, 1830. Both parents listed as born in Vermont in 1880 census. At school in Lagrange, IN 1850, married Nancy Ann Renfro, 1858, Rock Island, IL. 1860 census, Muscatine, Iowa, as a sawyer. First Iowa Infantry, 1851. 1871 or 2 divorced. Married Josephine Johnson Westcott 7th, Aug, 1873, Grand Rapids, MI. Children: Edward (or Edmund) H. Gifford, born 1861, married to Nettie May Roundy 1907. Moved to Bismark, ND ca. 1885. Died, Bismark, ND 1903. Is Edmund J one of the offsrping of Charles and nancy?
