I don't run across New Bedford - Giffords , you're the first. My Giffords were in Dartmouth, I am wondering if you have any genealogy on them. I can not go back farther because I am stuck on the names. Hannah S. Gifford b. abt 18 Aug 1822 Dartmouth/Westport m. 3 March 1837 Westport to Humphrey Hitt b. 1816. Dartmouth/Westport. Her father was Harvey Gifford b. abt 1795 (guess) . He could also be James Harvey Gifford. I am not sure. Her mother was Sydia Tibbits b. abt 1795 (guess) . She could also be Lydia Tibits. marriage date was 30 Nov. 1820. I have seen the original marriage certs in Dartmouth. I may be reading her name wrong. It seems there may be two families that may be running with similar names and even the first child's name in the Dartmouth area. On a different note some of the very old names in the Dartmouth / New Bedford area I also have in my genealogy are Wilcox, Mosher, Tripp, Bedon, Maxson, Tabor, Cooke, Warren, Seabury, Pabodie, Garrison. Even the Chaces of that area are related to my Cape Cod Chases. Thank you Rick Arruda Attleboro, MA
