Hi- I ordered a social security application for my uncle Lester GIFFORD. But, the one they sent me is not MY uncle. Is he yours? Will be happy to forward to right family. This says he was born Sept. 23, 1891 in Oxford, Chanango County, New York. His father was Ward B. GIFFORD, and his mother was Jennie L. TURNER. Lynn bldll@tu.infi.net

I am researching the line of Joseph GIFFORD, b. Apr. 24, 1833, in Uniontown, PA. Perhaps they are related? Joe Gifford
Hi Thanks for responding. I am just starting to research the Gifford name. I have the name of my great great grandmother, Margaretta Gifford who was born abt 1835-1840 in PA. Perhaps has cherokee indian heritage??? Do you have any idea if the New York or Maine Giffords have any connection to the Giffords in PA? I heard from one lady who has Gifford connections that were cherokee indians too and knows of a Margaretta. She will send me the info. I am a Gifford living in Uniontown, Ohio. My father, Bernard Gifford, was the son of Horace Gifford who came from Erie, Pa. Horace was the son of John & Phebe Gifford from New York. John originated in Vermont, but I have yet to find who his father was. His mother was Pauline. Do you have dates ? Perl Gifford was best freinds with Horace Greeley and went to Greeley Colorado with Horace from Erie . There were a couple of children born in Colorado , I don't have there names . I guess Perl didn't have much luck and returned to Erie a couple of ears later . Write to the MA Archives (see info. on MA GenWeb site) for Henry's birth certificate. They will probably be able to locate it. It will tell where he was born and his parents' names. Then you can narrow down your census search. Look for records on microfilm at your local LDS Family History Center. MA kept great records and you should have no trouble finding Henry and tracking down birth, marriage and death records for the family. Have you searched the LDS online? I found everything I needed about my Giffords from the above sources. -----Original Message----- From: Damguire@aol.com <Damguire@aol.com> To: GIFFORD-L@rootsweb.com <GIFFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, August 04, 1999 11:41 AM Subject: Re: [GIFFORD-L] Henry Gifford, Carver MA >I am also looking for a Gifford in the southeastern/MA area: Henry A. >Gifford, b. 1861 and died 1956.
