Hi All, Well, time to list this again. Anyone with a child unknown born between 1770 and 1780 in Mass. NY or Pa. The fathers name may be Alexander, Thomas, William, James, Robert or Hugh. Those first names pass through 4 generations. The mothers name is possibly Elizabeth, Mary, Jane, or Marie. I have been stuck at a brick gene wall for over two years now and am looking for any holes in anyone elses lines that could possibly fit with my Alexander Gifford b approx 1777 d 1821 Balt. Md. He was not born in Md. nor where his first two children Elizabeth and Thomas. He has a sister named Jane b. approx 1790, who married a Capt. Robert Fairweather of Philidelphia and has three children, Alexander, Anna, and Charlotte, all born in Pa. I have no other info on any of these named individuals. So, even if you have a long shot connection, please let me know. I need some new area to start looking for them, even if it is to eliminate that line and narrow down the possibilities.\ Enjoy the Holidays.\\ Michael
He may be my Jesse Gifford's father or uncle or something, but I have nothing on Jesse's ancestors one way or the other. If you run across any info about Jesse (b 1830 d 1870) probably in NY, let me know - there may be some connection. If I locate any info, I will pass is along. Thanks! Joyce
Sylvenus Gifford, son of the Rev. War vet William Gifford is said to have fought in the War of 1812. I have not been able to find a roster of those volunteers from the New York state. Furture, Sylvenus may have been killed in the war and there may be record of such an event and perhaps a pension for his children. Any suggestions and/or help in verifying these unproved assertions would be greatly appreciated. Some also say that Sylvenus had three children, on of whom was William Sylvenus Gifford. William Sylvenus Gifford is said by some to have been born in New York state on Dec 14, 1816 and to have married Sally Cole on Sep 12, 1836. However, the War of 1812 was over in 1815 and either the birthdate is wrong, his father was not Sylvenus or Sylvenus Gifford was not killed in the War of 1812. Again, any suggestions or help in resolving these conflicts would be appreciated. Hi Pauline, Thanks for your thoughtful reply. I do have a copy of the NEHGR series. One of my biggest stonewalls is trying to prove or disprove that an additional child of Lois and William was the Rev. War vet William Gifford (1754-1758 - Aug 15, 1846) that followed his children to Erie Pa. Enos Peck Gifford (b. 1791-1881) was a son of William Gifford (1754-1758 - Aug 15, 1846). Thanks to all of you that sent information on this book. From the remarks received it seems that it will not be as helpful to my research as I had hoped. One has to keep striving. Dear List Members, Does anyone out there know Sylvia (Mrs. Carl) Gifford's email address? She is a compiler/genealogist of the Gifford Family (printing many articles). The last time we corresponded with one another was in 1987. Her address was 532 S. 670 East, Orem, UTAH 84058. Hasn't anybody ever heard of my Silas Gifford, born OH 1853 died TN 1921? I know he existed, but just cannot find parents for him anywhere. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday. Betsy
As you do Gifford research, has anyone found any evidence that John Furman b Oct 1766 Newtown LI, NY married Elizabeth Gifford b New York abt 1769. She is presumed to be the granddaughter of Jonathan Gifford b 25 Mar 1704 Dartmouth, Mass. Name of her father unknown. This marriage is suggested by a preponderance of evidence, but seeking further documentation. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi to all: I am still searching for parents, siblings of a Silas Gifford b 1853 in OH. Married a Mary Jane Williams in IN in 1876. Moved to TN, Dyer Co., and Benton Co. Silas died 1921 in Dyer Co., TN. Had the following children: Scott Burdette, Will, Charles, John, Oscar, Isaac, Cecil Beulah and McKinley. Desperately needing help. Thanks, Betsy
Hi All, I have read of this Gideon Gifford of Rochester, MA and Duchess County, NY. I am wondering if anyone knows of my ancester James Harvey Gifford (aka Harvey Gifford) born abt 1795 perhaps Dartmouth, MA married to Lydia Tibbets on 30 Nov 1820 in Dartmouth, MA? When I read of Rochester and Duchess County I bet that this James Harvey is at least a grandson of Gideon because James's daughter Hannah S. Gifford b. abt 18 Aug 1822 husband's parents Thomas Hitte and Nancy Mosher were from the same area and went to Duchess County to get married on 15 April 1815. Richard Arruda
To David: Referencing William Gifford of Sandwich, Mass. serialized in NEHGR April 1976 pp137 & 138 #46 Gideon Gifford (Gideon 3rd generation, William 2nd and 1st generations) was born 28 Nov. 1719 and died in Dutchess Co., NY, after 6 Apr. 1789. He married in Plymouth, 14 Mar. 1742/43, Lois Jackson, probably the daughter of Joseph and Remembrance (Jackson) Jackson. It is possible that if she survived her husband, she is the Lois Gifford who married 17 Sept. 1758, Paul Lewis (Sandwich Town Records). Information of his will is omitted. ......The birth of only one child of this Gideon Gifford is recorded at Rochester. We have been told that he moved first to CT and later to Beekman's Precinct, Dutchess Co., and that he had at least two unrecorded children. It seems likely that he had more children after leaving Rochester. Children: #110 i. Joseph (5) , b. 17 Mar. 1743/4, "son of Gideon Gifford, Junr. and Loes" (Rochester Vital Records). ii Mary; mar. In the 1850 Sumner Co., TN census, Gideon Gifford who was 40 at that time gave TN as his birthplace. I do not have the info on Jabez. The earlier census did not give that information. Hi Hazel, Thanks for your reply. The early Giffords seemed all to choose from only a very few given names for use with their enormous number of relatives with the Gifford surname. The dates seem not to match, but did you note the location of their birthplace on the census record? Hello, On October 30 I responded to your posting your great-great grandmother, Rachel's name, as I am trying to find my gr-gr-gma Rachel GIFFORD SNYDER, b. OHIO. sometime before her daughter's birth in 1870 in HANCOCK Co. I must not have known how to download a photo you had attached, that you thought I might possibly recognize something, because I see on my file that was what we last were attempting. Sorry, I was off in another direction chasing down another branch, I guess. For a fact, I should be washing the dog right now :-) Could we re-connect on our Rachels? Would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks, Linda
