Their son James was christened in Glasgow on 12 August 1840. James came to Tasmania (date unknown) married Catherine MMarshman in 1872. Who did your John marry? I know of a John who sailed often between Tasmania and Victoria. Died in Victoria. Where did your John and his children end up?
