His father Andrew Gibson was born about 1800-1810 I know not where. Hi, Could Andrew Gibson found in 1830 Knox Co., Ky., census be the one you are looking for? He appears to be the only Andrew in Kentucky in 1830. He was either the son of Isaac and Ritty or Major Gibson -- not sure which but they are from the 'Melungeon' family of Thomas Gibson. Andrew was married to Lucinda Amy but is a widow on the 1850 census with just two of his children. Where have you found Arthur on the census records? Joanne, thank you for your answer. My Arthur Gibson married Francis in Waco McLennan Co TX in 1857 where their first child Joseph Silas was born 1858. They were on the 1860 census in Bosque McLennan County TX where my G-grandfather James (LL) was born 1861. They were on the 1870 Census in Decatur Wise County, TX as Bailey Gipson, but the wife Francis Levenia and all the children are correct. Arthur and his family was again on the Wise County, TX Census for 1880. I will study your website listed below about the Melungeons in hopes of finding "something". I have seen the Knox County Census listing Andrew Gibson but was never able to find anything more for him. I will look at the 1850 Census in hopes that there is others to help in the search and would contact me. I will try going backwards in time for Isaac and Ritty including Major and on to Thomas. Arthur died in Decatur Wise County in 1885 before his family moved into the Territory. I have a picture of him taken in 1883. Thanks for your help.
