Bernadette Gibson, 88, West Branch, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at the Crestview Care and Rehab Center in West Branch after an extended illness. Funeral mass is at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, West Branch. The Rev. Ed O'Melia will officiate. Burial will be at West Branch Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the Barker Funeral Home, West Branch. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Iowa City Hospice. Mrs. Gibson was born June 9, 1914, near West Branch, the daughter of Lawrence and Anna Connell Dean. She married Murray Gibson Oct. 28, 1937, in Iowa City. She graduated from West Branch High School in 1932 and later attended Cosmetology School in Davenport. She owned and operated Bernadette's Beauty Shoppe in West Branch for 30 years. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and active in the American Cancer Society. Survivors include a daughter, Janann Schiele of Coralville; a daughter-in-law, Joan Gibson of West Branch; five grandchildren, Cathy Cohn, Jill Pierce, Brian Gibson, Jamie Ankenbauer and Lance Schiele; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Dean in 2001; and two brothers, Maurice and Edward. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
