Author: drhooper1313 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gibson/5706.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My gg grandfather came from County Cavan in the 1820s to Deer Island, New Brunswick, Canada. He probably brought a young wife with him but she died shortly after arrival. He remarried 3 times but the ladies kept dying as did his children. His last wife was from Saint John, N.B. and she managed to live long enough to have 2 daughters who lived. One of those daughters, Elizabeth Gibson, married a Fountain (whose gg grandfather was Stephen Fountain, a Loyalist from CT) and had my grandmother. The Gibson name in our area of Canada would have died with Edward in 1869 because he had no male heirs to carry on the name. So, I'm looking for connections back in Ireland to Edward and his sister, Ayn, because someone over there has to know something about why he left there before the potato famine for Canada. There were several other families from that same area already on Deer Island when he came, Thompson & Ferris. Thanks for your response, but I doubt that we are related, although one never knows these things. If we could get someone from Ireland to come on board, we'd have a better chance.
