Unfortunately it is not over yet. While I keep finding circumstantial evidence pointing at David and/or Mercy Gibson as Elisha's parents, there is no definitive, irrefutable evidence to this point. In fact, by trying to trace David and Mercy's history back through Dearborn County Indiana, I may have found another possible father candidate for Elisha. I have found Mercy had a brother (Barzilla Allee) in Tazewell County IL and David may have had a brother in Tazewell County IL at about the same time. It is David's possible brother, George D. Gibson (b.1810), who might be the additional candidate to be Elisha's father. The circumstantial evidence pointing to George D. (1810), besides his name, is very thin, and his wife in Tazewell County records, Alice (b.1820) would have been 12 years old the year of Elisha's birth. This makes George D. (1810) a possible but not so much Alice. I have found no records sugges! ting George D. had an earlier marriage and children, but his Gibson heritage, his age, and his timeline of movement between Indiana and Illinois makes him a "possible." Since this search is getting a bit complicated, I decided to put together all of the important data I have found to date, and I have attached that document as a story to Elisha's profile in my public tree. Unfortunately I cannot post pdf files here or I would do so. Please read, and if any of you have additional information that will help bring the search to a successful end, please share! For the others out there who are following this, if you would like to help, there are two things you all could do: First, I cannot find George D. Gibson (1810) in the 1840 US Census either in Tazewell County IL or Dearborn County IN. George D. was supposed to be in Tazewell County in 1840, having already married Alice, had a child by her, and bought land in the county. If anyone could find an 1840 census listing for him, we could check to see if he had children pre-dating his 1837 marriage to Alice listed in his household. By 1850, no such older children are listed in his household. Second thing to check. Alice Gibson (1820) appears to be listed in the 1885 Nebraska Census. I don't have access to those census images. If someone could look her up and see where she was in Nebraska, which household she was a part of - and her relationship to head of household, we might be able to figure out another family connection and lead us to more potential data. There appear to be two Alice Gibson's in this Nebraska Census. I'm pretty sure the 1820 - 65 year old - Alice is the one we want. Also, Elisha and Ann are transcribed with the last name of "Gebson" in the 1885 Nebraska Census database. If anyone would like to transcribe their complete household listing and share, please do. I don't expect a revelation from that record, but one never knows. Thanks in advance for your help, and please do share anything you might have that could help the cause.
