Jerry: I saw where Gail Lies answered your reply to my query. I'm also adding some info. I've started with Isom Gibson who is my wife's ggrandfather on her paternal side. There is probably a lot more information here than you wanted at least it makes interesting reading. Isom Gibson is my main brick wall and has been for quite some time. I know a lot about him but have not been able to find exactly when he died or where he is buried. I know he was alive when the 1900 federal census was taken and he was living in Jasper, Newton Co., AR. Descendants of Isom Gibson Generation No. 1 1. Isom2 Gibson (John1) was born Apr 1818 in VA. (Source: Census (Federal), Marble City Twp., Netwon Co., AR. - 1900.), and died Abt. 1903. He married (1) Cary Ann Frederick Jan 18, 1849 in Barry Co., MO. (Source: Barry Co., MO. Recorder of Deeds - Marriage license.), daughter of James Frederick and Susan Durden. She was born May 23, 1829 in NC, and died Bef. 1855. He married (2) Sarah (Unknown) Abt. 1855. She was born Abt. 1836 in NC. (Source: Census (Federal), 1870- Dallas Co., MO.). He married (3) Mary Ann Goldston Abt. 1875. She was born Abt. 1830 in Lebanon, Wilson Co., TN. (Source: (1) Census (Federal), Newton Co., AR. - 1880., (2) Research done by Glen Maxey - Austin, TX., Glen Maxey of Austin, TX.). Notes for Isom Gibson: Recently discovered that Isom had some military service from a book " Arkansas Volunteers of 1836 - 1837" by James Logan Morgan and reprinted by Arkansas Research in 1992 lists Isom Gibson. Isom is listed as a Pvt.; Co. B; 1Bn; 2nd Reg.; Arkansas Mounted Gunmen. The term of service for Isom and his unit were the same, Enlisted September 15, 1836 and discharged March 30, 1937 at Camp Washington near Fort Gibson, Oklahoma Territory. It does not appear that the unit saw any real action. The action which the units were organized for was variously called the Cherokee Wars, Cherokee Removal or Defense of the Sabine River In 1852 congress passed an act that awarded bounty lands but the unit was was never authorized to draw pensions. I have copies (from NARA) of correspondence that Isom had with Washington D.C. in what appears to be an attempt to acquire additional land that he may be entitled to as a result of his military service. It also appears from the correspondence with the pension office that he had excercised his original land warrant for 80 acres in Barry Co., MO.and then transferred title to John Gibson (who I believe is his father). I have not been able to find Isom or his family in any 1850 or 1860 census. Found the following information online it comes from a Dallas Co., MO. marriage book " Book A, 1863 -1873. It shows that Isom Gibson, who is listed as an Elder of his church (church unknown) performed the following marriages. 04-25-1869 G.F. Weeks - Lucinda Brown 06-22-1870 John H. Bennett - Catherine Keren 06-25-1870 George Bennett - Catherine Rsouin (or maybe Roussin) 12-11-1870 Charles Wilson - Nancy Green 12-17-1870 Hesekiah Brown - Nancy Ellen Emeline Asken Federal census (Dallas Co., MO.) shows that in 1870 Isom Gibson was married to lady from NC. named Sarah. Federal census (Newton Co., AR.) shows that in 1880 he was married to a Mary. Information found in the "History of Boone County" identifies Mary as Mary Ann (Goldstein) Gaylor she appears to have been Isom's second wife, Mary Ann had two sons and a daughter by her marriage to a Ruben Gaylor, which The 1880 census shows E.C. Gaylor, her son, living with them. The census also shows Isom's son by Sarah, William E., and a girl, Ellen, which the census says is his daughter also living with them. THE ABOVE IS FROM FEDERAL CENSUS AND A BIOGRAPHY CONCERNING THE GAYLOR FAMILY IN " HISTORY OF BOONE COUNTY " PUBLISHED FOR THE BOONE CO. HISTORICAL & RR SOCIETY, INC. THE BOOK WAS PUBLISHED IN 1998 BY TURNER PUBLISHING CO. Family legend says that Isom Gibson lived in Wilcoxson, Newton Co., Ark. The town later became known as Marble City, then was changed to Marble Falls and later Dog Patch, USA and since the failure of the entertainment center (Dog Patch) the town has been renamed Marble City. He was a millwright, carpenter and preacher, also operated grist mill and cotton gin at Wilcoxon. His old home place is about two miles south of the falls on Mill Creek and there is a large hill that is called Gibson Hill at the Old home place below Dog Patch. The marriage index for Newton Co., AR. calls him an ordained minister and he was performing weddings in the 1880s. The credentials found in Newton County, AR. probate records indicate that Isom belonged to the United Baptist Church of Christ. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is a copy of credentials for an Allen Hudson found in Newton Co., Ar. "The History of Boone Co., AR." published by the Boone Co. Historical & Railroad Society published in 1998 gave her name as Goldstein, I have chosen to use the spelling of Goldston on the theory that the Goldstein name was from third generation memories and the Goldston name is from genealogical research. Notes for Isaiah/Isah Gibson: I have found Isaiah's name spelled several ways. The 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 federal census spells it Isaiah. The 1920 census spells his name Isah. His name is spelled Isah on the marriage license between him and Mary Cruise. The 1920 federal census has Isaiah and family living in Coal Co., OK. He and Mary have grand daughters, Stella and Dorthia and grandson, Lewis living with them, I would guess that these children are the offspring of he and Mary's son, Lewis. Vernon Elmore, Ardmore, OK. whose wife, Elaine, is great granddaughter of Robert Henry Cruse, brother of Mary F.E. says that the Isaah & Mary F.E. were in Comanche Co., OK in 1906 to take part in a land auction around Lawton, OK. The land had been Kiowa Indian land and was the last parcel of the Oklahoma land rush. More About Isaiah/Isah Gibson: Age at time of death: 72 yrs., 10mos., 14 days.
