Author: LeathaBasco Surnames: Gibson,,ARK/MO,,TENN,,VA Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gibson/278.989.2963.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Martin,, I can't remember exactly which one,,but I did see my Gibson's name spelled as Gipson on a census record,,so that may be how the spelling changed,,the census workers didn't always know how to spell and many time the people didn't have a clue how to spell it either and just spelled them how they sounded,,however I only found it spelled Gipson one time on the census,,however I cannot find them at all after the 1880 census in Jackson Co.Ark,,however I think I did find 'possibly' a couple of the girls on the marriage records in Jackson Co,,some I don't know for sure if they belonged to mine because on most of the census records they just went by initials instead of names and couldn't make out or didn't have whether or not they were male or female,,but one that I do believe that is related to my family married a Donaphon and another married a RP Carter 'I think his name was',,I can't remember the girls names right off hand,,but they were married in the mid to late 1800's I believ! e,,if you get a chance to look at the marriage records on Jackson Co Ark website'which' have great marriage records,,if you would could you look and see if maybe they fit into your family?,,maybe that's why I cannot find them,,maybe they started spelling their name with a "P' instead of 'B',, I appreciate any help you can give me,, Leatha Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.     3. My Grandfather's name was spell Gipson on the 1910 SC census. But we are Gibson's.
