The story passed on in my family was that she was standing too close to the fireplace and an ember caught her gown on fire. Her whole body burned and she died as a result of her burns a few days later. Her mother, Nancy Ann (Thompson) Gibson, tended her wounds in the hills of Haywood county, North Carolina, until she died. I would appreciate anyone who can shed more light on this story.
