    3. Want to encourage you too. I've been doing genealogy for over 30 years and have had my share of brick walls. My Gibsons were in New England, New York and still looking for proof and names. I have a Samuel Gibson married to Sarah Dutton and still trying to prove their parents. Don't give up. 3. This is the ninth year of searching for my family; I would be enormously grateful for clues or suggestions. I am searching for the birth family of Harry Henry GIBSON: GIBSON, Harry Henry b. about 1885 in Mo. - one source says he was born in Parson Creek (now Meadville) Linn Co. and another says Butler, Bates Co.. I find it most likely that he was born in Linn County as he married Doris Dill who was born 7 Mar 1896 in Enterprise, Linn County. (No marriage certificate located.) Their daughter Elsie May was b. 7 Jan 1910 in Kansas City, Jackson Co. and their son Harry Henry (Jr.) was b. 7 Dec 1911 in KC. Harry Henry GIBSON (Sr.) appears in the KC, Jackson Co., Mo. 1910 census at age 24, listing parents as b. Kentucky and Tennessee. I have never found his family in spite of efforts to research other GIBSON families who might have had a child his age. He was in the 1910-1911 KC Directory as a teamster for Laning-Harris Coal and Grain Co. but in the 1920 census Doris was listed as a widow with the two children. I have found neither a death record nor a burial record for Harry Henry GIBSON, nor is there a record of divorce. Elsie GIBSON did not have children and I am the only child of Harry Henry GIBSON whom I never met. My mother told me my father had native American ancestry. I can't say I've given up on this search but I'm certainly stalled. I issue a plea periodically and hope someone will recognize the family of Harry Henry GIBSON (Sr.). Thank you for reading this. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: kmull_204 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gibson/5652/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Melungeon Conference Focuses on History and DNA Technology History, genealogy, and the latest DNA technology will come together at the first annual Melungeon Historical Society conference. The public is invited to this event, which will be held on June 12 at the Hawkins County Rescue Squad meeting room, 955 East McKinney Avenue, Rogersville, Tennessee. "For nearly two hundred years, writers and researchers have speculated about the origins of the Melungeons," says Wayne Winkler, president of MHS. "For the most part, the story of the Melungeons has been told through myths and legends. The Melungeon Historical Society believes that answers will be found through scholarly research." Presentations at the MHS conference will begin at 10 a.m. and will cover topics such as the origin and historical uses of the term "Melungeon," DNA research on Melungeon families, and other topics related to the multi-ethnic people first documented in the Clinch River region in the early 19th century. The use of DNA technology in genealogy will be covered by Roberta Estes, founder of DNAExplain, a Michigan company that analyzes and interprets individual DNA tests. Other presenters include Jack Goins, Hawkins County Archivist and author of "Melungeons and Other Pioneer Families;" Kathy Lyday-Lee, a professor at Elon College who taught a course on Melungeons; and Kathy James, who will present genealogical information on the Gibson and Collins families. "This conference is of special interest to those who want to learn more about the Melungeons," said Winkler, "but it is also designed to benefit anyone interested in genealogy and especially in the use of DNA technology to trace family lines." The conference is free, but donations are suggested to help promote the work of the Melungeon Historical Society. Contact: Wayne Winkler 423.439.6441 winklerw@... 3. We expected to match the Lineage 3 group since many of them believed they link with Gilbert Gibson of Louisa Co. Va. Either they don't match old Gilbert or our DNA came from someone other than a Gibson, thus a non-paternity event. Does anyone know of someone with a paper trail to Louisa Co. Gibson's? If so, maybe they can join the DNA project and could match mine or those in Lineage 3 on the Gibson DNA page. Also, do those who have DNA for there line know they are from the Louisa Co. group? Didn't old Gilbert, born 1690's, mention in his will something about going to South Carolina which he didn't do? ----- Original Message ----- From: JohannaKing@aol.com To: gibson@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, May 02, 2009 2:22 PM Subject: Re: [GIBSON] Indian Gibson family from Charles City, VA Very interesting! I wasn't aware Gilbert's line was represented in the project. I think this means then -- that Gilbert's line doesn't match the old Gideon Gibson line, nor does he match the 'Melungeon Gibson Lines' either -- that is fascinating since Buck Gibson shares an ancestor with old Gideon of South Carolina and not Gilbert in Louisa County. Gilbert appears to be the same one mentioned in the will of Gibby Gibson -- do you know if any of the Thomas Gibson descendants are represented in the DNA study? It certainly seems the 'Melungeon Gibson Line' is leading back to South Carolina Gibsons -- rather than Virginia. Joanne In a message dated 5/1/2009 9:25:39 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, gen42@comcast.net writes: Joanne, We descend from the Louisa Co. Va., Gibson's that remained in Virginia. Which George Gibson do you refer to in Jane and George? Our Gibson didn't match anyone in the Gibson DNA project named Gibson or any other surname on FTDNA. The paper trail is accurate so there was a "non-paternity event" or NPE as they call it at FTDNA. I'd like to find a possible person in the 1600's or 1700's that was the biological father for a Gibson in Charles City, New Kent, and areas that became Hanover and Louisa. Any ideas will be welcomed. Thank you. **************Access 350+ FREE radio stations anytime from anywhere on the web. Get the Radio Toolbar! (http://toolbar.aol.com/aolradio/download.html?ncid=emlcntusdown00000003)
