Mary Elizabeth Votaw and Alexander Gibson are my Great-great-great grandparents. I have located them in the 1850 census in Washington County, Kentucky, listed with 3 children that I had not recently known about and were never mentioned any of my relatives. Alexander and Mary's children: Harriet, James, Samuel, Johnson, George Whitfield, Penic, Elizabeth, Jamison, William. I am descended from George Whitfield Gibson. I have also found a John and Lernsha Votaw also in Washington County in 1850. He was born ca 1788 in Virginia and she was born ca 1805 in Virginia. He might be Mary Elizabeth's father, but Lernsha would be too young so might be a second wife. John and Lernsha had children listed with them: Hezekiah, Amelda, Margaret, Jacob, and May, ages 16 to 6. Hope I helped. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have also confirmed that Emmett's date of birth is May 12 1864. I am trying to get further back but am guessing so far. Winnie Gibson and Wayne Gibson were my fathers aunt and uncle and indeed twins. There is quite a bit of information on Winnie on the internet as she was a nurse at Pearl Harbor as well as the Korean war. 2. Pamela, We spoke the other day re: Gibsons.- with no apparent connection. I am now wondering after reading your post. I just saw your post and was very curious.. From your digest (you mentioned): A john Gibson, a Susan Gibson, A Pearly and a Milroy (?) My grand father Vilroy Gibson, b Valparisio Indiana 1860? 1867? to : John and Susan (Childers) Gibson, is said to have a sister Pearl ( I have some (faint) old photos with notations. Couldn't help but respond with these names, dates and places seeming to be so closely connected. Vilroy left Indiana with his mother Susan and sister in 1867 for Kansas. Have their subsequent history. Think there may be a connection??? Georgia Kobel Washington **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! 3. No, don't give up.I have been doing research for about 12 years and like you the Gibson family is the only one "I can't find".I have my grandmother Mertie Gibson in Wise Co. Texas, her father James E. Gibson born in Bosque Co, Texas, his father Arthur Bradley Gibson born in Kentucky died in Wise Co. Texas, and his father Andrew Gibson with no information, and that is it. I have had this since 1998. Have gone on with all but Arthur and Andrew. I have gone on with Arthur B. his wife Frances Smithhart and their children, but would really like to find more. I keep saying "someday I will find them". I sure hope so. 2. Cheron
    3. Hi Pamela, My maiden name is Gibson also and, like you, my Gibson family were early settlers to New York, although my Gibson family migrated to Upper Canada (Ontario) during the 1812 war where I found land purchase records for them. I too still cannot 100 percent confirm the father of my John Gibson, born June 1799 in New York, after 30+ years of searching, although I did finally find some baptism records in Long Island for a David Gibson whose son John Gibson was baptized on the same date in 1799 and David is most likely his father. One broken brick wall leads to another fully intact. I am suspecting that David Gibson was a military migration to New York during the American Revolution when New York was controlled by the British or was a Loyalist during the British occupation. Early records are few and far between for both New York and Ontario. Just for the Gibson record, baptisms recorded for David Gibson in Long Island include: Elizabeth Gibson, 1794 David Gibson Jr., 1797 John Gibson, 1799 Peter Gibson, 1803 Catherine Gibson, 1804 David Gibson's marriage record date of 28 Aug 1789 is also recorded in the same church. The early Ontario land records for David Gibson also list John Gibson, James Gibson, James Gibson Jr., and William Gibson in the same settlement, thought to be David Gibson's brothers/sons/nephews. Around 1839, after the 1837 Rebellion in Ontario, John Gibson moved back to the USA, first to Illinois then to Iowa.
