The following is a list of marriages in Indiana where records exist, where the groom's last name was Gibson, and the date of marriage is 1833 or before. Since Elisha was born in late 1832, most of the 1832 and 1833 marriages are not likely, but I included them at the end of this list just in case there were errors in the records. If this is the same David and Mercy Gibson I've been looking at in the 1850 US Census of Tazewell county IL, then the marriage date could disqualify them as parents of Elisha. Unfortunately there is no guarantee this is a complete list of Indiana Gibson marriages, and even if Elisha's parents are in this list, nothing in these records will identify them as such. Still looking, though. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The last I know of her she is 75 years old living in her son's household in 1880 in Swain County. I would love to know more about her but that's it. About the Cherokee application, I have no idea about that. If you can share any information about it, please email me at wncsteph@aol.com. My husband's ancestor was William Welch, who ran a store in Waynesville in the 1850's. Not only was G.W. Gibson a member of Welch's household, he was also a frequent shopper in the store, according to store ledgers. We have wondered what the relationship was between the two families, as it appears that Gibson named some of his sons after members of the Welch family. I hope to hear from you soon regarding this family. Stephanie Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
