    1. [GIBSON] GIBSON, William & Elizabeth 1751 MA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: GIBSON, SEWELL, RHINES Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wAZ.2ACIB/5129 Message Board Post: In researching my sewell line, I viewd a 1760 land record (MA land records, S Worcester) book 41, pg. 426 that gives the details for the sale of inherited property of William & Elizabeth SEWELL Rines Gibson residing in HOPKINTON, MA left to Elizabeth in her father, Timothy's will of 1753. Elizabeth was born in 1718 Lynn, Essex Co., MA to Timothy & Elizabeth Jeffrey Sewell. They migrated with several children to Mendon, Worcester Co., MA about 1729--at least the proprietors records for Mendon show property owned by Timothy beginning in that year. Elizabeth Jeffrey Sewell died prior to 1735 and is buried on property where 1.5 acres around her burial were excepted in a sale BY Timothy Sewell of property in 1745. 30 June 1735 Timothy marries Bridget Lyndsey, issues two other children, and dies with will 1753 in which Elizabeth Gibson is an heir. Upon obtaining the will and probates, the transcriber of the probates listed Elizabeth's husband as Eleanah. This clearly was an ! error on the transcriber's part, as it so appears that Elizabeth signed the probate (very badly I might add), and the 1760 land sale settles the issue. In a cursory search for the marriage of William & Elizabeth I find her name given as Rines in the vital records with a note Elizabeth of Mendon. Clearly this was a second marriage for both Elizabeth Sewell and William Gibson as his PREVIOUS WIFE WHOM HE MARRIED IN 1744 HAD DIED, and that event is listed elsewhere in a couple of genealogies. William's father was JOHN GIBSON and it appears that William was born ca 1715.

    1. [GIBSON] Gibson's in OK for Nan and Robin.
    2. Armenta
    3. Hi Nan, I would like to know more about your Gibson's and their locations in AR. Will write more in a few days. Robin mentioned that Jordan, and maybe John Gibson had married a Smithhart. I want to add Robin to this, we may all have some connections. My Francis L. Smithhart was born near Vicksburg, MS 1839 in Warren County to James and Cornelia Sevier, Smithhart. And it is strange that your Gibson's and mine wound up in the same two towns in OK. Francis came into OK after Arthur Bradley died to get land. She was part Cherokee. But, they were denied in 1895, she died in 1899, and her descendants were again denied in 1907. Thanks, Armenta......

    2. Hello, I find your post very interesting! I have Gibson in the same area of Oklahoma as you. Down to Okemah and Castle. I do not recognize the Arthur Bradley Gibson you refer to. My line of Gibson come from Alabama. Do you know why the wife came to Oklahoma after his death? My grandfather was there in about in the early 20's his family came from Arkansas. So my Gibson's were there long after yours of course but maybe there was a family member there in town. My grandfather from what I was told was working for the highway dept. there. My mother was born in that area in 1928. Nan

    3. Sorry, that name does not ring a bell with me in my line of Gibsons. My Gibsons came from Kentucky - Knox, Bell, and Whitley - but by the way of Tennessee, Virginia, and England, and *may* be part of the Melungeon Gibsons (Valentine Gibson and Frances Garrett). 3. After nine(9) years I am still looking for Andrew Gibson and his son Arthur Bradley Gibson's birth and early location. I know nothing about Andrew, and I am beginning to think he could have had another given name, or an additional name (Joseph?) and used it instead of the Andrew, which is the only name I have for him. Andrew would have been born about 1795 to 1810, I don't know where, and Arthur between 1831-35 maybe Kentucky. My GG-grandfather Arthur Bradley is listed in my grandmother's Bible to have been born in Kentucky. No age, town, or County was given. Just State of Kentucky. He married Francis Lovina-Levenia-Loving Smithhart in 1857 at Waco (Bosque) McLennan County, Texas. He died in Decatur Wise County, Texas in 1885. In 1886-87 his wife Francis and all her children came into the Indian Territory and settled at Okemah, and Castle, in Okfuskee County. Some at Seminole, and Weleetka nearby. Two sons settled in Stephens County. One on the Chisholm Trail at Ara, the other in Stephens County at Marlow. If anyone would like to know more, or has any information for Andrew his son, Arthur and wife Francis' children and their descending families please ask. This has been an on-going project for a very long time. Thanks very much, Armenta..........

    2. Does anyone on the list have a connection to this line. This line started in Ireland with William Gibson born 1741-1746 in Emerald Isle, Ireland. He married Avis Carey (Cary). They migrated to Washington Co., Pa., then on to Guernsey County, Ohio. My interest is William Prian Gibson that married Jane Kennedy. Georganna
