Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/wAZ.2ACIB/5099.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I doubt that Mary A is daughter of Tempa E, daughter of Jesse Gibson. Just my thinking. Not certain of Tempa E's dob, rootsweb shows 1842 but Koger Cemetery records shows 1847, and her death 1865. I have a map showing land owned by Mary Gibson connected by Larkin then John S. This map also shows land owned by Jesse and I have assumed this is the home place where Larkin built his home. There was an Albert Gibson who married Martha Edwards (daughter of Elisha Edwards) and they owned land in this area too. Jesse Frank Gibson was born in Ringgold County, Iowa in 1863, so Mary A was born the year before. ?? I will do some checking of Moms records and see if we can determine about the original homestead of Jesse and Mary Sr. This is from the History of Harrison County by George W Wonamaker 1921 "During the Civil War, Larkin Gibson was with the Iowa State Militia and after the war he came to Missouri and located in Washington Township, Harrison County, Missouri." So bottom line, I do not know who Mary A Gibson, born 1862 in Iowa would be. The information regarding the purchase of T E Gibson's property to Larkin is interesting to me. Did you find this on the net or at the Court House in Bethany? I am wondering if this is the property my Mom owns? I am going to Bethany tomorrow and will see what I can find out. Will get back to you if I find something.

Where I was confused originally was where I found the reference to him and his children. It was in an index of court documents that was right next to the Mary A Gibson, daughter of "TE " Gibson. I thought at first they were related, but realized they were just alphabetized. It is confusing because the two families don't live that far apart. My focus is Mary A Gibson, born ~1862 in Iowa. I have surmised that she was a daughter of Tempa E Gibson, sister to Larkin and Walker. I haven't found anything else except guardian ship of Mary was switched from William Jesse to Walker c 1874. In addition, the original guardianship papers list the purchase of T E Gibson's property to Larkin. I now think that was probably the original homestead of Jesse and Mary Sr. I think that T E ended up with it, and eventually was purchased through the court by Larkin. Jesse and Mary had property in Worth/Gentry county, but I believe they actually lived on property right on the border of Harrison/Worth-near where the graveyrd is. I would like to get more information on where they were living in Iowa in the 1862 time period. I think that mother Mary and Tempa were possibly in the same area as Larkin and Francis in Keokuk county, Iowa during the war. Does any of this sound familiar?

The Stephen D Gibson and Dabney & Harriett are not names I am familiar with. There was a James Gibson, no relation to Larkin Gibson family, and we always referred to him as Scotch Jimmy. I am wondering if perhaps the Stephen, etc are related to him, not our line. Scotch Jimmys daughter Lily Gibson married Irvin Gibson (Larkins Grandson), so the families are connected through marriage by this couple.. My great grandfather John Calvin Gibson was the son of Larkin Gibson. Would be interested if you have any other replys regarding your message. Good luck. Phyllis
