    1. [GIBSON] Gibson's in Limestone Township, Lycoming County; PA 1850's
    2. C.A.Gibson
    3. Hi. I am looking for John and Daniel Gibson in the 1850 census, which lists them as being from Limestone Township, Lycoming County, PA. John and Daniel disappear from the 1860 census, and the 1840 census may have them, but at that point only head of household is listed. So all I really know is the following, from 1850 census: John A. Gibson 34, farmer, value of farm, $400. Daniel Gibson 4 Is it possible to get a search done of probate or land records? Are there marriage records of this time frame? Maybe church records. My theory is that John Gibson married an <unknown> Dougherty. The 1840 census shows a John Gibson married, and can only surmise his spouse died or left him before 1850. So maybe he married in the late 1830s? Any help appreciated, Craig Gibson Phoenix, AZ

    1. Re: [GIBSON] To Sandy -Success - John GIBSON
    2. Sandy, Do you know anything about the descendants of this John GIBSON and/or can you put me in touch with the descendant who contacted you? My gr-gr-grandfather was Hales GIBSON (born 1848) who lived in Carroll and Heard counties in Georgia (near Fulton County). My grandmother (who was Hales' granddaughter) said his name was John Hale GIBSON, but she never knew him. That's just what she was told and I've found no documents using "John." Anyway, he is my brick wall. I've had no luck in identifying his parents or any siblings. I'm wondering if this Revolutionary War soldier, John GIBSON, might be Hales' grandfather or some relation. I'll clutch at any straw at this point. Thanks in advance. Surnames: gibson sewell sewall sherman chase lewis jeffrey lyndsey soule waggoner mix honsinger etc Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/wAZ.2ACIB/5153 Message Board Post: please find below verifiable sewell information in connection to william gibson & elizabeth sewell of hopkinton ma Descendants of Timothy Sewall Generation No. 1 1. TIMOTHY1 SEWALL died 1753 in Mendon, MA. He married (1) ELIZABETH JEFFREY 1716 in Lynn, MA. She died in Mendon, Worcester Co., MA before 1735. He married (2) BRIDGET LYNDSEY 1735 in Mendon Worcester Co., MA. Notes for TIMOTHY SEWALL: I have been unable to uncover anything about Timothy prior to his marriage in Lynn, MA 1716 to Elizabeth Jeffrey. He was listed as Timothy Sewall of Boston. One researcher believes he descends from the Sewall/Fesnesden group of Sewall's in New England Colonies; however, there yet is no proof of that. There are some Timothy Sewell's descending from a Bernard/Barnard Sewell in England; however, there have been no links found here either. Luman Sewell noted that his family was of German and Irish descent, his mother, Sarah Honsinger was of German descent. No Irish links have been found with the exception of his step-grandmother, Mary Ann Mix, the second wife of Joseph Sewell Jr., Maj, Col, Esquire. There is a slight possibility that Luman's grgrgrandmother, Bridget Lyndsey, 2nd wife of Timothy, was of Irish descent; however, the Lyndsey's are typically thought of as Scot, and perhaps her bunch may have been planted in Ireland, but this has not been determined, either. Timothy & Elizabeth Jeffrey migrated from Lynn to Mendon Worcester Co., MA prior to the birth of Katherine in 1729. Prior to 1735 when Bridget and Timothy married, Elizabeth died, her burial place on land owned by Timothy exempted from a land sale listed in the MA Land Records for south Worcester County, MA. There was another child, Rebekah, who is mentioned in Timothy's 1753 will which is assumed to have been issued by Elizabeth. Curiously, the marriage intentions filed from Mendon for Timothy & Bridget lists his name as Timothy Shewil of Boston, intentions filed 30June1735. His will lists wife Bridget, sons John and Joseph, and daughters Elizabeth Gibson, Margaret Sherman, Katherine as sole executrix, Rebekah, and Anna. We know from the probate records that Bridget was the mother of Joseph and Anna as she was named their guardian. Other will probate records shows Eleanah Gibson signing for Elizabeth; however, the signature must have been Elizabeth’s as her husband’s name was William according to the land records. Notes for ELIZABETH JEFFREY: died prior to 1735; in Mendon; no records thus far found except for a land record noting place of burial where land was exempted from a sale of property. More About TIMOTHY SEWALL and ELIZABETH JEFFREY: Marriage: 1716, Lynn, MA Notes for BRIDGET LYNDSEY: The union of Bridget Lyndsey and Timothy Shewil of Boston is listed in the Boston, Suffolk Co., Ma vital records, intentions filed Mendon 30 June 1735. Bridget is mentioned as "my beloved wife, Bridget", in the Will of Timothy Sewall probated Worcester Co., Ma 1753. She is also mentioned in the guardianship probates of Joseph ( who being 15 years or older chose her as his guardian ) and Anna whose guardianship was awarded to her mother, Bridget Sewell. More About TIMOTHY SEWALL and BRIDGET LYNDSEY: Marriage: 1735, Mendon Worcester Co., MA Children of TIMOTHY SEWALL and ELIZABETH JEFFREY are: i. REBEKAH2 SEWALL, b. Mendon, MA; m. LEMUEL LEWIS. Notes for REBEKAH SEWALL: Rebekah's mention is found in her father's will of 1753. She most probably is the daughter of the Timothy and Elizabeth union as she was obviously not considered a minor such as Joseph and Anna were. It is assumed that she was born in Mendon as Katherine was since she is not listed among the other children in Lynn. It is unknown whether or not she was born before or after Katherine. I found a marriage in Conneticut for a Rebecca Sewell in the 1750's, I believe 1757. This may be the same Rebecca, however, I have found NO links nor suggestion that the Conneticul Rebecca is the same as Rebekah Sewall of Mendon. Most probably she was married to Lemuel Lewis in MA or NY as the sale of her property left via will mentions her residence as Beekman Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY. ii. JOHN SEWALL, b. March 22, 1715/16, Lynn, MA. Notes for JOHN SEWALL: John is mentioned in his father's will of 1753. Although there is NO PROOFf, I speculate that he migrated to other New England environs and his descendants may have migrated to Virginia then Ohio. iii. ELIZABETH SEWALL, b. January 18, 1717/18, Lynn, MA; m. WILLIAM (ELEANAH) GIBSON. Notes for ELIZABETH SEWALL: Elizabeth is mentioned in he father's 1753 will as Elizabeth Gibson; probate records show a signature of Eleanah Gibson, assumed to be her husband; however, land records of the sale of Elizabeth’s willed land show his name as William, and they resided in Hopkinton at the time of the sale. It appears that their marriage was the 2nd for both. Notes for WILLIAM (ELEANAH) GIBSON: This name, Eleanah, appears as a signature in the probate records of the 1753 will of Timothy Sewall. iv. TIMOTHY SEWALL, b. July 26, 1720, Lynn, MA. Notes for TIMOTHY SEWALL: It is assumed that Timothy died prior to the death of his father in 1753 as he is not mentioned with the others in the will. v. SARAH SEWALL, b. July 21, 1722, Lynn, MA. Notes for SARAH SEWALL: Sarah is not mentioned in her father's 1753 will thus it is assumed that she died prior. 2. vi. MARGARET SEWALL, b. December 13, 1724, Lynn, MA married Elkanah Sherman. They, Lemuel & Rebekah Sewell Lewis, Joseph Sewell and Anna Sewell were all in Beekman Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY at the time of the sales of their willed properties entered into the land records of Worcester County, MA 1759.. vii. KATHERINE SEWALL, b. 1729, Mendon, MA; m. ANTHONY CHASE, 1754, Providence Co., RI. Notes for KATHERINE SEWALL: There is more known about the family of Katherine than any of the other Sewall children due to the Chase descendants of Mendon, MA. Information on this family is well documented and easily accessed on the web. Katherine was yet unmarried when her father died in 1753 and was named sole executrix of the will. Probate records extending into 1754 show signatures by her and her husband, Anthony Chase. Notes for ANTHONY CHASE: The Anthony & Katherine Sewall Chase descendancy is well documented in Internet Genealogy file on several web sites. The resided in Mendon, Worcester Co., MA as did many of their descendants. More About ANTHONY CHASE and KATHERINE SEWALL: Marriage: 1754, Providence Co., RI Children of TIMOTHY SEWALL and BRIDGET LYNDSEY are: 3. viii. JOSEPH2 SEWELL, b. 1737, Mendon, MA; d. probably Sutton, Quebec Canada, but perhaps Alburgh, VT. 4. ix. ANNA SEWELL, b. 1739, Mendon, MA. Generation No. 2 2. MARGARET2 SEWALL (TIMOTHY1) was born December 13, 1724 in Lynn, MA. She married ELKANAH SHERMAN October 18, 1747 in Smithfield, Providence, RI. Notes for MARGARET SEWALL: Remembered in her father's 1753 will as Margaret Sherman More About ELKANAH SHERMAN and MARGARET SEWALL: Marriage: October 18, 1747, Smithfield, Providence, RI Children of MARGARET SEWALL and ELKANAH SHERMAN are: i. DANIEL3 SHERMAN, b. 1748. ii. GEORGE SHERMAN. iii. ELKANAH SHERMAN. iv. PHEBE SHERMAN. v. ALPHE SHERMAN. vi. CATHERINE SHERMAN. vii. ASAHEL SHERMAN, b. March 12, 1758, Gloucester, Providence, RI. 3. JOSEPH2 SEWELL (TIMOTHY1 SEWALL) was born 1737 in Mendon, MA, and died in probably Sutton, Quebec Canada, but perhaps Alburgh, VT. Notes for JOSEPH SEWELL: Joseph Sewell, Sr. is an enigma. Virtually nothing is known about him or his migrations after his guardianship probate of 1753-- with the exception that he, sister, Anna and sisters, Margaret & Rebekah and their spouses were residing in Beekman Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY at the time of MA Land Sales entered into the record in 1759-- until he turns up in the 1790 NY/1791 VT census. He and son, Joseph Sewell Jr both took the Freeman's (VOTER) Oath at the first Alburgh Town Meeting in 1792. He is listed on the Grand (property owners) Lists through 1797 while Joseph Jr listings begin 1798 (the year of his marriage to Kasia Waggoner) and Tabor Sewell's begin 1801. In 1798 "we find Joseph Sewell settled on Lot No. 82, 92 acres, 2nd concession"; by 1802 the lot is listed in the name of Joseph Sewell, Jr. It is assumed that he is the 1 male over 45 listed in the household of Joseph Sewell Jr 1810 US census as Joseph Jr was 37 years (1 male under 10, 2 maless 26--45--one Jos Jr, 1 male over 45, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10--16 Jane Ann, 1 female 26--45--Kasia). Tabor Sewell by that time was married to Deborah Deuel and in his own household with 1 male under 10, 1 male 26--45 (Tabor), 2 females under 10 and 1 female 16--26 (Deborah). There is a Joseph Sewall listed in the company of Capt. Jencks out of Providence Co., RI in 1756 Old French & Indian Wars. There is no proof that this Joseph and Joseph Sewell Sr are the same, but the place and time are right for the possibility. This company defended forts in NY State. In addition to his share of the estate of his father, Timothy, he was also given by his father via the will Timothy's gun and Timothy's negro servant, Cesar, once Joseph reached the age of 21 years. He, along with step sisters Rebekah (married to Lemuel Lewis), Margarit (married to Elkanah Sherman) and sister, Anna Sewell are found in Beekman Precinct, Dutchess Co., NY as noted in Worcester Co. MA land records when they and sister Katherine Sewell Chase (husband Anthony) all sold their 1/7 share of land of their mother, Bridget Sewell's tract in the estate of Timothy Sewell. Joseph, Rebekah, Margarit, and Katherine sold in 1758, posted to the record 1759; Anna sold her 1/7 share in 1762, posted in 1764. Joseph Sewell Sr's wife (wives) have not been identified. Children of JOSEPH SEWELL are: 5. i. TABOR3 SEWELL, d. November 04, 1857, Noyan Quebec Canada. 6. ii. BRIDGET SEWELL, b. 1766; d. September 11, 1823, Alburgh, VT. 7. iii. JOSEPH SEWELL, b. 1773; d. October 27, 1853, Alburgh, VT. iv. CATHERINE SEWELL, b. 1780. 4. ANNA2 SEWELL (TIMOTHY1 SEWALL) was born 1739 in Mendon, MA. She married WILLIAM SOULE. He was born 1738 in MA. Children of ANNA SEWELL and WILLIAM SOULE are: 8. i. TIMOTHY3 SOULE, b. 1762, Spencertown, Columbia, NY. ii. WILLIAM SOULE, b. 1764. iii. JOSEPH SOULE, b. 1766. iv. STEPHEN SOULE, b. May 15, 1768. v.
