    1. Re: [GIBSON] additions to Deacon John Gibson of CT line, including Delos Gibson, Kasson family
    2. Robin M
    3. Kay and all, I didn't realize you were part of the John of Cambridge clan! Since I knew you had done research of Deacon John of CT, I thought you were my cousin, but you were probably just weeding out my Gibsons who migrated to NY. Do you have a date/name for "article from Chenango, NY"? Here are some corrections to it: The immigrant ancestor was John Gibson, not James, who I call Deacon John (1691?-1759). He probably came from Scotland in 1722 with his first wife Sarah and they had at least 4 kids 1716-1728. Second wife Mary (Campbell) Alexander m. abt 1731 (after her husband died abt 1729 in NH); had 4 children including Jennet/Janet and John. John was born probably a decade later, say 1736. (Barbour Collection of CT Vital Records, Voluntown 1708-1850; Stowits and Gibson Families; James H Smith, History of Livingston County, New York, 1881, p.446; George M Kasson, Genealogy of a Part of the Kasson Family in the United States and Ireland (Woodbury, CT: Arthur E Knox Printer, 1882) Corrections to History of Avon (Genesee) NY: Mrs FB Pearson (Pierson) is Frances Janette Gibson who m. 1828 Frederick Bushnell Pierson. She's the daughter of Kasson Gibson, granddaughter of John Gibson (not William) and Esther Kasson. John Gibson (b.1736) did have a brother James (b.1726), not sure if he settled in RI but he married Martha Campbell. (Stowits & Gibson Families pp10-13; NEHGR Vol.32 p.276) These two articles refer to same Deacon John family. SO, probably all Delos Gibsons are from this line, and possibly more specifically to the John Gibson/Esther Kasson line. ---Robin Mason Bedford, MA www.wordsworth2.com

Hilda was my great grandmother but she died in her early 20s. My grandfather was only 4 and didn't talk much about family so I was looking for any contemporary information from the Gibson family. I don't think her brother had any children and I wondered who brought up Hilda's daughter Katie as I believe that was a member of the Gibson family. Unfortunately we don't have any family documents or photos as far as I know. best wishes Catherine

    1. [GIBSON] Gibson, Kasson, etc.
    2. Kay Brownell Reed
    3. I dug up the following information in 1990/1993 while researching my ancestors "John Gibson and his descendants of Cambridge, MA" some of whom also removed to Chenango Co., NY. Some of the children of John and Alice (Kasson) Gibson ended up in Chenango Co., New York; others in Avon (Genesee) NY. Article from Chenango Co., NY James Gibson, the immigrant ancestor, came from Argyleshire, on the western shore of Scotland to America in 1722 and made his home in Connecticut. With him came his second wife, Agnes (Campbell). By his second wife he had, born in Connecticut: John (mentioned dbelow), and Janet who married John Gordon. John, son of James Gibson, was born in CT about 1725. He lived in Windsor Co., CT. He married Esther, daughter of Adam and Jane (Hall) Kasson; her parents came from Belfast, Ireland, and, according to family tradition, they came in the same ship with James Gibson and other Scoth and Scoth-Irish pioneers. Adam Kasson died in Voluntown, Windham Co., CT Nov 1 1752, aged 71 yrs; and his wife died dthere Mar 31 1767 aged eighty-five years. Children of John and Esther (Kasson) Gibson: 1)Jacob m. ?? Deming; 2) Archibald, d in infancy; 3) Alexander, never married; 4) John J. m. Kate Warren; 5) Archibald m. 3x; 6) William m. Lodema Ransford; 7) James m. Hannah W. Pierson; 8) Tomas Kasson m. Lubrina Reddington; 9) Mollie m. Hezekiah Pellett; 10) Nancy m. Edward Waterhouse; 11) Chauncey (Chancy) C., mentioned below Chauncey D. lived and died in Chenango Co., NY and had many descendants, one of whom was Stanford J. Gibson who was superintendent of schools from 1899 - ??. Stanford J. Gibson did a genealogy on this family but I am not sure where it is to be found. ALSO: William Gibson, brother of Chauncey, came in about the same time from Ballston, Saratoga Co., NY, where, being a wheelwright, he was engaged in the manufacture of spinning wheels, an article which was in large demand at that day. He settled on a farm adjoining Chauncey's and carried on the wheelwright business until his death, when his brother, Chauncey, succeeded him, and continued it till his removal to New Berlin (Chenango) NY. William's wife was a sister to Hascall and William Ransford. She died at her brother Hascall's, wity whom she went to live when her husband was taken sick. >From The History of Avon (Genesee) NY William Gibson, grandfather of Mrs. F. B. Pearson (Pierson) settled in Canterbury, CT, married Esther Kasson who was an intimte friend of Mary Howd who beame the wife of Samuel Waterous and the mother of Mrs. Joseph Pearson. William Gibson had a brother James who settled in the State of RI. Children of William and Esther (Kasson) Gibson: Jacob, Archibald, John, William, James, Chauncey, Thomas.. KASSON, b. Apr 13 1783 m. Sep 3 1809 Sabrina Redington; d Aug 6 1850. Sabrina, his wife, born May 14 1788 d Aug 24 1861; was the eldest daughter of Daniel Redington, of Pittsford, MA. Her mother's maiden name ws Hannah Goodrich. Mrs. Gibson had three brothers and three sisters, viz: Truman, Rufus, William; Electa m. Enoch Treadsay; Laura m. Robert Boyde; Clarissa m. Joel Hayes of Oswego Co., NY. Molly m. ?? Pellett of Norwich, NY, Nancy m. Edward Waterous of Avon (Genesee) NY. Betsey m. John Hascall Ransford of Norwich, NY. The given name DELOS appears in both families. Kay Brownell Reed, VP & Genealogist Potter Co. Historical Society www.pottercountypa.net/history www.paintedhills.org

    2. Perhaps you might find some of your Gibsons in Kentucky and Arkansas, as they migrated . There are lots of Gibsons in the census in the middle and later part of the 1800's. Try Lawrence county .and Jackson county. The Gibson clan are very elusive. I am at quite a disadvantage because my father was orphaned at two, and all his sibling died about the same time, must have been an epidemic. I do know his father was born in 1851 and he married Amanda Cole on July 3, 1979 in Jackson County Ar. That is all I have on them other than the stats on the children. Lynna Gibson Gibson

(Deacon John Gibson emigrated with Deacon Adam Kasson (1681?-1752) and they settled in Voluntown, CT, together.) With Delos' son named Casson (or rather Kasson) Gibson, it has to connect, though I don't have a Delos Gibson that directly connects here..... Deacon John's son John Gibson (b. 1736?) married Adam Kasson's granddaughter, Esther Kasson (b. 1740?), and they end up in Schenectady, where I lose them. They had 12 kids. What's your source? Maybe I can figure something out! I knew there were several Delos Gibsons born within a decade or so of each other, so it must be cousins or something of the Deacon John Gibson line.
