I wish I knew! Thank you for writing and posting this information. I am stuck at my Great Grandfather's parents(Henry Elye Gibson 1852 - 1923). I can't seem to find him before 1880. I believe I have him with his mother (Eliza, I think)and possibly a brother, JP, in Three Mile Community of Barnwell county in 1880. So, the area is right, the names are right as are the ages, but nothing so far in 1870. I'm looking image by image and that takes a while! From 1900 until now they are in and around Ehrhardt, Bamberg County, SC and most are buried in the area. I will send an outline descendant tree to your private e-mail address. If you see anything that looks familiar, please, let me know. Thanks again, Ann --- [email protected] wrote: > Ann, I have some Gibsons listed on the 1830 and > 1840 census for Barnwell, S. > C., which would be close by. > > 1840 - #192 - Joseph N. When he entered service he gave St. Joseph County, Indiana as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Soldier: CLIFTON EUGENE GIBSON Born: June 7, 1929, Caucasian Date of loss: October 15, 1952, MIA When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Gibson family is one of those missing. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. I hope this gets to Brigitte, who is searching Thomas Gibson In Missouri. I am pretty sure that I have found your Thomas Gibson wife Mary in 1850 census Reynolds Co Mo. Possibly the son of John Gibson and wife Hannah, who live just 2 houses away. In 1860, I find Hannah Gibson and 3 sons , and near is Thomas Gibson ,wife Mary A and daughter Margaret age 9, and 3 more children in St Francis Co. In 1870 Thomas is then married to Permelia with probably 3 children by this 2nd wife and then children by 1st wife, Margaret, Edna, John, William. This is still St Francis Co. Thomas ,wife and 4 children are still in St Francis Co in 1880 census. Contact [email protected] if you are interested in what I have found. Mina in Missouri
Gene, I am also looking for Gibson's from Missouri. Could have been Washington or St. Francois counties, since one came from part of the other. My husband's great-great grandmother was Margaret Gibson b. 1846 who married James Henry Williams. They had 8 children. Margaret died bet. 1878 - 1886 in Missouri. James remarried, and his new wife farmed out the female children to work as "domestics". Margaret's parents were Thomas G. Gibson b. bet 1815-1830 in N. Carolina and Permelia "Amelia" Williams born same time, same place. I have found no other info, but believe that Margaret had siblings as well. Does any of this sound familiar? Please let me know. It might be the connection I've been looking for!
