Any chance this picture is of your "Arthur Gibson". you can contact me at [email protected] Maybe if you have a picture of him about that age you could scan and e-mail it to me, or I could scan this one and send to you to have a look at. Could have been Washington or St. Francois counties, since one came from part of the other. My husband's great-great grandmother was Margaret Gibson b. 1846 who married James Henry Williams. They had 8 children. Margaret died bet. 1878 - 1886 in Missouri. James remarried, and his new wife farmed out the female children to work as "domestics". Margaret's parents were Thomas G. Gibson b. bet 1815-1830 in N. Carolina and Permelia "Amelia" Williams born same time, same place. I have found no other info, but believe that Margaret had siblings as well. Does any of this sound familiar? Please let me know. It might be the connection I've been looking for! 1. [GIBSON] John W Bowen - Gibson Co 1870 - P.S.
    2. Sorry, I left off the other siblings of my ancestor, Thomas George Bowen. Thomas BOWEN (1799-1862) A minister of the M.E. South church. Wife: Rebecca WALKUP (1801-1851) Married in Rutherford Co, TN 1821 Both born in NC; resided in Rutherford, Cannon and Coffee Counties, TN; both died in Coffee Co. Children: 1. William M BOWEN, CA 1824 The only info I have on William is from 1850 Coffee Co census. I found him there, with wife, Elizabeth, and son, Joseph; age 4 months. They were no doubt married in the 1840s, but Coffee County marriage records are not available for that perod. 2. Thomas George BOWEN, b 13 Apr 1825, Rutherford Co, TN; died Phelps Co, MO 06 Feb 1882; mar Millie Level BROOKSHIRE 12 Dec 1846 (we have that date from family info). 3. John W BOWEN (Gibson Co in 1870), ca 1827 His age is approximated from census records. His age has varied on census records, so he may range in birth date from 1822-1826/27/ 4. Martha J BOWEN, ca 1830. A Martha BOWEN mar Thomas L SHAW ON 06 Oct 1860 in Coffee Co. I don't have proof this is 'our' Martha, but it seems likely. 5. M H (Mary?) BOWEN, CA 1835. A Mary H BOWEN mar W R HOWARD on 10 Oct 1855 in Coffee Co. Same as above: I don't have proof, but it is probably. 6. James BOWEN, ca 1838. He may have been married by 1860 and may have had a son, James, b ca 1859, as noted in the previous email. I found a marriage of J W BOWEN to Martha JONES on 13 Aug 1868 in Coffee Co. With only initials to go by, it is difficult to say who this is. I don't know what James's middle name was, and I believe there was another John W(?) BOWEN in the county about then, so this may be another BOWEN family. I compiled these siblings from the census records. There may, or may not, have been others, who were born and died between the 10 year census dates. Without a family record, which I've always hoped I would find in the possession of another descendant, we can't know. If they did not, they were lucky not to have lost any children during that time period. If William was the age indicated in 1850, it is quite likely there was another child older than he. mm _____________________________________________________________ Netscape. Just the Net You Need.

    1. [GIBSON] Bowen, John W - Gibson Count 1870
    2. Would like to locate descendants of John W BOWEN, b 1820s Rutherford Co, TN; mar Sarah Barkley 1846 Rutherford Co; in Cannon Co 1850; Coffee Co 1860, and in Gibson Co 1870. His (presumed) wife in 1870 is Sallie. IN 1850 their ages are 23 & 24; their ch are Mary E 3 & Thos H 1. In 1860 John & Mary are each 38; Mary & Thomas are still listed as ages 12 & 10. In addition are: William 8; Rebecca 6; Nancy 4; Julia 3. Also, James 1 and James Sr (John's youngest brother), age 22. In those days you didn't have to be in direct line to be Jr & Sr, so I thought James might be John's son. Then when I found them in Gibson in 1870, John has a 4 year old James. So, either the 1 year old James in 1860 was James Sr's son, or if John's son, perhaps had passed away, since they did rename children the same at times in those days. In 1870 children since 1860 besides the 4 year old James were: John 10; Robt 6; Jennie 2; and Adda 6 months. In this census John was age 43 and Sallie 35 (oldest daughter, Mary, is still at home and is age 23, which should be correct). There were no relationships listed in 1870, and no marriage status, so it is assumed that all are children(?)Of the children previously listed, only Rebecca and Nancy are missing in 1870. I do not find John or Sarah/Sallie in 1880, but do find a W. Bowen of the right age, 53, in Gibson County. With James N 20, son; Lue 16, dau; John 14, son; Robt Lee 13, son. If this is the same family, James should only be 14; John should be 20; Robt should be 16, and the two youngest daughters in 1870 were Jennie 2, and Adda only 6 months old. There was no Lue in 1870, but if that is Jennie, she would only be 12 and Adda, if living would be 10. Marriages in Gibson Co after 1870 of names from John BOWEN household: Julia BOWEN mar J B WILLIAMS 1874 Have not found them later. Jennie BOWEN & Dan ELLISON 1905 Did not find them in 1910, but found a Dan ELLISON in another household. Thomas BOWEN & Drue BUTLER 1871 No other information W A BOWEN & Eliza DODSON 1873 No other information Would very much like to contact descendants of John BOWEN, who is a brother to my great-grandfather, Thomas George BOWEN(1825 TN-1882MO). Thomas G migrated from Coffee Co, TN to MO in 1851. He was the s/o Thomas BOWEN (1799NC - 1862TN) and Rebecca WALKUP (1801nc - 1851TN). Other siblings of Thomas G Bowen were: Marguerite Bowen Mason _____________________________________________________________ Netscape. Just the Net You Need.
