Author: jrhyne130 Surnames: GIBSON Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gibson/5316/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am researching James L. Gibson of South Carolina/North Carolina. According to his marriage license dated 19 November 1884 from Mecklenburg County, NC: - He was 26 years old - He married on 20 November 1884 to Ida Harkey. - His parents were Claud and Rebecca. - Claud was dead at the time of his marriage. - His parent's residence was left blank. James L. remarried on 30 September 1894 to Della Gibson in Mecklenburg County, NC. James L. and Della and the children from his first marriage with Ida are in the 1900 and 1910 Federal census. Both census' list his and his parent's place of birth as South Carolina. His youngest child, Frances "Fannie" Gibson, is my paternal G-Grandmother. Just as added info: Fannie's sister, Jennie, relayed to my Mother that she and her sister were part Native-American. I am not attempting to align myself with a tribe, but this tidbit of oral history may be useful. Thank you for any help you can provide. They had two children, Elsie Maria and Harry Henry (b. 1910 and 1911) and in the 1920 census Doris was listed as a widow. Where and when did the elder Harry Henry GIBSON die and who were his parents? Birth certificates for Harry's children have his birthplace as either Linn Co., MO or Butler, Bates Co., MO. After six years of searching I seem no closer to finding this family. (Where I don't know) At some point before 1920 he & his family moved to Kansas. (I suspect about 1900.) He is listed as James S. Gibson in the 1920 Concordia, Cloud, Kansas census married to Nina "Gibson" with 2 children, William E. "Billy" Gibson & Hannah Belle Gibson. Rumor has it that Nina divorced him about 1930-1931 somewhere in Kansas. [Nina P. Rogers McFarren/McFarland was born 17 Aug 1894 in Kansas]. He remarried (possibly) & had 2 more children, Donna Marie Gibson b. 1932 Topeka & Dorothy Joann Gibson b. 1935 Manhattan Kansas. Donna was my mother-in-law, she passed away in 1972, as Donna Marie Goodman. James owned a trucking company (name unknown) when he was killed in 1938 Kansas. (Somewhere between Kansas City & Manhattan Kansas.) I would love any info. on this man or his family before & after 1920. Thank You in advance! I need someone to show real true documentation that a man name Ziba Gibson lived in the 1700s. Even a ship list would help. Everyone needs to stop speading undocumented info. How can we ever trace our ancestors if false information is stopping everyone from seeking truth? Family lore is NOT Genealogy. Author: WFields0223 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.gibson/4713.1.1.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In the 1850 Scott Co VA Census. living next door to James & Lexy, and son, Kendrick, are a George Gibson, age 66, and Ruth age 50, with chidren, Phoebe, Workman, Linda, and Olla. In 1860 Scott Co Census are George, age 75, Ruthy, age 50, Phoebe, Wortman, Olley (female), and Hamilton, age 10. Also in the 1860 Census are James, Lexie, with children, Kendrick, Jane, Fayette, and Henry. So, this still does'nt answer who Hamilton's parents are, but he is not living in the James and Lexie household in 1860. Ruth's age in both census remain the same (that has happened many times. I have also seen where as many as 12 years has been added to the real age), and so if she was indeed 50 in 1860, then it is possible that she and George are the parents of Hamilton.
