My GGrandfather was Philipp List who married Maria Anna Schmitt. Maria had a brother Martin Smith who lived in Detroit, MI, his wife was Catherine. Philipp and Maria were married in New York City December 7, 1862. That is where their first 2 children were born, both dieing very yound. The first child was named William Heinrich List and second one Peter. Then they moved to Detroit, MI about 1868 or 70. I have no idea because I did not reseasch the Schimitt family directly you should try contact the genealogic research people in Brasil...the only thing that I can garanty is that there were people with this very last name who immigrated to Brazil.
