In the US we list a city, county, and state to identify a location. I have looked at a number of maps and haven't been able to find the equivalent of a "county" for Germany. Somewhere I came up with Unterfranken for these towns, but can't find where any more. Can someone help me identify if this is correct, and more importantly, how to identify the "county" for other towns. My cousin is a Buergermeister (Mayor?) of Rimbach Gemeinde (community which includes a number of smaller villages) in Kreis Cham ( we would call that a county in every state but Louisiana where it is a parish) Oberpfalz (one of several administrative districts in Bavaria)(Is it seven?)I don't think we have an equivalent) Unterfranken is also one of the administrative districts. State (Land) of Bavaria. Then there are also Cities not attached to a county. Stadt ohne Kreis (Kreisfrei) (county free)or something like that. St Louis City in the USA is separate from St Louis County. I think Wikipedia has an article on this; this topic came up recently maybe on another list. C L Bischoff
