My name is Doug Wetzig. I live outside Cleveland, Ohio. I have been doing family research since 1992. My GGGF was Karl Heinrich Wetzig who came to the states after 1852. I believe he arrived in Boston first since his first child was born there in 1854. I have never been able to find his or his wife's passage record. His side of the Wetzig's came from the Hannover area, Neustadt, Hildesheim and Marktkirche. Before this it was the Teblen or Doeblen area. My GGGM was Anna Werneke from Walle near Verden area? For the past year I have been trying to link up the various Wetzig families around the world. I would appreciate any help anybody can offer. Best Regards, Doug Douglas.Wetzig@PolyOne.com
Hi Doug, How are you? It would help to know the birth dates of your ggGrandparents - or even their approximate birth year. Have you ever found them on a 1900 US Census which may list their year of immigration? Here may be a possibility for your ggGrandmother ... Ship Name: Elizabeth Port of Departure: Bremerhaven, Germany Port of Arrival: New Orleans, Louisiana Arrival Date: 17 May 1848 - Diedr. H. Werneke, age 59 - Anna M. Werneke, age 21 - Wilhelm Werneke, age 18 ref.: Microfilm: M259_28 RG036 National Archives, Washington, D.C.
