Hello Johann, First off, Hoxter is spelled "Höxter" or "Hoexter" and it is quite a large city in North-Rhein-Westphalia. Q: Is the Hubert DOHMANN you are referring to the one who was married to Anna Schroeder (b Feb 1862) in West Point, Lee, Iowa? This is just a wild guess because in 1880 he is living with the Schroeder family in West Point, Lee, Iowa. I checked the 1900 census for Lee, Iowa and Hubert stated that he came to the US in 1876 (wife Anna was born in the US). I then checked the passenger lists for Hubert Dohmann/Domann arriving about 1876 only to come up empty-handed. Now comes the tricky part: I have found a "Barth DOMIN" est. year of birth: 1855, who immigrated at age 18 in May 1873. I first had my doubts that he was the right person, and when I looked at the ships manifest, he is listed under the last 'ditto' marks for Bohemia. No way I said to myself but then I realized that the person shown on the manifest came from "Hoerster". So, I said to myself, what we have here is a 'lazy' scribe who went 'ditto mark' crazy. I believe that he is your 'Hubert' who came with Jos. and Franz Langehenke, from Hoexter. The difference in the 'year of immigration' 1876 given on the 1900 census may in fact have been the year in which he failed his first papers. When the census taker asked about immigration, people often mis-understood and gave the year in which they became a citizen. I did not find anyone by the name of "Hubert Domann/Dohmann" listed on any passenger list except the one noted. Suggestion: have you checked the church records (birth of any of the children, death of Hubert, etc.) of the West Point to see if anything is mentioned about the place he came from? These German-American church records are generally much more informative than their American counter parts.
