    3. Not all replies result in a flood of emails as happened this weekend. I guess we all need to consider the value of a reply to the list. For instance, could someone else learn something from it? (I, for one, was very interested in the recent discussion on conscription and language.) And say someone requests information about a person. If that reply is not sent to the list, how does someone else know that the question has already been answered? Why should 5 or 10 people take the time to look up the same information that the person has already received? This was a very unusual occurrence, and I don't really see that it should affect the way that we have always communicated with each other.
