If you have had difficult-to-find immigrant ancestors, the following information may assist you. Any good genealogy or reference department of a public library system or university should have this two-volume set of books. The Alsace Emigration Book, volumes 1 and 2, compiled by Cornelia Schrader-Muggenthaler (Clossen Press, 1989 and 1991). Volume 1 - ISBN 1558560351 Volume 2 - ISBN 1558560866 These two books cover the 1817-1870 period of emigration from Alsace. The book comprises a list of passengers mainly from Alsace, France. However, many people migrated through Alsace from Switzerland, Germany and other countries. The volumes are well worth giving a look at to see if your ancestors are listed. There are some passengers listed at the following link: Ship Passenger Lists: Immigrants from Alsace (and Elsewhwere) to America 1820-1850 http://members.cox.net/smithgen/sources/ships/ships18201850.htm (see other links on above web page) Short summations of the history of Alsace at: http://members.cox.net/smithgen/surnames/immfams.htm & http://www.roelly.org/~genealogie/links.htm Further information: FRA-ALSACE Mailing List at: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/FRA/FRA-ALSACE.html & GERMAN-ALSATIAN Mailing List at: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/DEU/GERMAN-ALSATIAN.html & Boards > Localities > Western Europe > France > Alsace at: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.weurope.france.alsace Best of luck in your research!
