    3. Hello Robert, At first blush there is no Diedrich GRIEBEL to be found at any time in Illinois or on a passenger list. So what we have here is a spelling-of-the-name problem. Please always make it a habit to provide all of the information you have on your ancestor e.g. date of birth, name of wife, name of children, name(s)/various spellings used in first and subsequent censuses after their arrival, and anything else so that those who want to help you don't have to spent valuable time trying to locate the family on a census to determine how many family members were born in Germany and came on the same ship. Also, not everybody knows that Galena, Illinois is located Jo Daviess County. Furthermore, did they actually reside in GALENA proper (many precincts to search through) or did they live in a Township. Diederich Griebel to USA in 1852 and settled in Galena, Ill. Can anyone help?? Thank You. R.
