    3. And here are some dos and don'ts when uploading your family tree for the world to see: Firstly, don't upload your family tree when someone else has already done so. I have noticed that at times there are 3 to 4 submitters, each of them has the same relative but some have submitted trees containing many errors. Secondly, don't provide a long list of "private" for living persons; Living persons should never be included anyway! But there is nothing more aggravating than looking at a long list of "private". Thirdly, don't list married women by their married name; if you don't know their maiden name, leave it blank. Fourthly, please check the correct spelling of German place names. This can be easily accomplished through Google. If you can't find the place on a map, then you can be sure that it doesn't exist. Do some research to determine the place where your ancestors came from. Some of the mistakes I have noticed are what I describe just plain sloppiness. For example: I don't care if the state name is misspelled on a census or birth certificate, don't list the state of Hesse-Darmstadt as Hasse Darnstedt; or Mecklenburg as Micklinberg, or Mechlenberg and so on; Such errors are propagated at lightning speed, and once they are on the web, they are difficult to correct. And lastly, since everyone has access to the family tree you so carefully prepared, it can and most likely will be copied and sold to others.
