I've recently joined the list - I live in Australia and am looking for the name Kirmess on passenger lists between Germany, England and also Australia in the first decade of the 20th century and possibly later. The name I am seeking is Carl/Karl/Charles Kirmess. This man was at one time engaged to my grandmother's cousin Lily Service of Randwick, New South Wales (a Sydney suburb). but we know little about him and his movements. Thank you very much for the information which I did not have. The people you give could link to Carl/Karl/Charles Kirmess as relatives and or perhaps parent - he was probably born 1880 and said he was born in Harsburg Prussia in details he gave to the 1911 UK census. He was a writer who used the name C H Kirmess - but I don't know what H stands for. I am looking for records which refer to him including passenger records. I feel that he must have a birth record some where possibly a marriage record and a death record at least - as well as records which show his movements between countries. If anyone has any suggestions as to where in Germany to start looking I would be grateful.
