    3. No, Hannover is relatively close, but a different area. About 60% of the New Orleans passenger lists covering 1820-1850 were destroyed in a fire. The remainder is available on microfilm and on Ancestry.com., with various indexes. If Luise came with her birth family, try to locate her in the 1850 US census with family members. Then research the entire family, especially the males, in their new home. Look at all available records. With a common surname doing "whole family research" is very important. Some indexes for 19th Century emigrants from the state of Hannover are available online at http://aidaonline.niedersachsen.de/ click on the tab "Auswanderersuche" [search for emigrants] on the top right. Good luck! Baerbel <Was that area considered part of Hannover in that era? I am searching grgrgrandmother Luise C. Schmidt born Aug 8,1831 (Hannover).Emmifrated to New Orleans age 14, 1849 with family. No luck so far. Thankyou, Phil> ------- Original Message ------- >From : Baerbel Johnson[mailto:[email protected]] Sent : 2/9/2010 1:40:26 PM To : [email protected] Cc : Subject : RE: Re: [G-P-L] HESSE KESSEL For Hessian soldiers one good list is the HETRINA- The acronym stands for the German version of "Hessian Troops in the American War of Independence", a six-volume set. We have these books here in our library, so I checked for Zarr, Sarr, Saar Sahr etc , and found three entries 1. A Johannes Saar from Schenklengsfeld in vol. 1 and 2 A Henrich Schaar from Kleinalmerode in vol. 4, and a Johannes Sarre from Ehringen, Kreis Wolfshagen. The first two places are on the eastern , "Thueringen" side of Hessen-Nassau, but Ehringen is on the western side and could have been construed as Hessen-Kassel . So that's a possibility to keep in mind for future research. The church records for Ehringen have not been microfilmed by the Family History Library. They may be available in the Lutheran archive in Kassel. You didn't say how much research you have done on this ancestor in U.S. records. In my opinion, this is where you should leave no stone unturned. Look at all the records you can find for Bedford, and the history etc. The Family History Library does have some records, but my guess is that you can find more in local and county archives and historical societies. I would especially look for church records and anything where he himself signed his name , like his will, or a land record. I also came across a website that has a lot of links to Revoluonary War information, including Hessian soldiers: http://freepages.military.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~bonsteinandgilpin/websites/websites.htm Good luck! Baerbel <I am trying to get information on my ggg grandfather, Parker Zarr. I was told he was born in Hesse Kessel in 1756 and came to the USA with the Hession Army. He settled in Bedford, Westchester, NY. Is there a Hesse Kessel group that might be able to help with getting this information?
