Hello, the farthest I could find was information from memory of my uncle. He says that the ship was named something like "Damfa Weeser", and several people confirmed me that they went from germany (exact port unknown) to rio de janeiro, in 1923. So, to recapitulate: Ship: Damfa Weeser (?), trip: 1923, from germany to Rio de Janeiro Passengers: Franz Strube, wife Marta Marie Strube (maiden name Otto) son Otto Strube (born may 1914), son Werner Strube (a bit older), All born in Neundorf, which today is Staßfurt, county Bernburg, Saxony-Anhalt. This is all I have now. 2011/8/4 Ursula <ubatrans@comcast.net> > Hello Alexander, > > there is really no way to help you as we only have access to passenger ship > lists for > immigrants to the US and Canada. > > The only way I could assist if you could give me the exact year of > DEPARTURE from > Germany. There was a line of ships built by AG Weser, many of which went from Bremen and other German ports, to London and then to to Brazil, Australia, etc. Also, most of the names of Weser's ships started with the word Dampf (schiffs) so it is possible that your uncle remembered bits and pieces of the ship's name or description to give the name Dampf /Weser???. I know from experience that relatives often are only able to give mixed bits of information and its accuracy or relevance is somewhat convoluted. I did find a record for Otto Strube traveling from Rio de Janeiro to NY, at a later date, probably when he was an adult. This will take some time to find the right family. It may be easier to trace them as a family, then later on, to find the ship that they traveled. > Date: Fri, 5 Aug 2011 01:33:33 +0200 > From: surak@surak.eti.br > To: germany-passenger-lists@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [G-P-L] Looking for which ship the Strube family went to Brazil. > > Hello, > > the farthest I could find was information from memory of my uncle. Hi Alexandre, the ship name your uncle recalls -his memory is excellent- is in German: Dampfer "Weser" The German word "Dampfer" just describes the ship type and translates to English as "steamboat" or "steamship". The actual name of the ship is "Weser", probably names after the German river "Weser". Hallo Alexandre, The link shown below takes you to the Germany Genealogy Website, "Die Maus". While the link is in German, most of the data is self-explanatory even for non-speakers. I entered "Strube" in the search field but didn't really find anyone travelling to Brazil. However, if you click on "Destination Harbors" you will find all the ships that sailed from Bremen to Sao Francisco do Sul and Sao Paulo, Brazil; although I didn't see any going to Rio. Nonetheless, it may be fun perusing the different passenger ship lists in the hope of finding something of interest. http://www.passengerlists.de/ Much luck, Ursula _________________________________________________________________ Memories are like threads of gold, they never tarnish or grow old ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alexandre Strube" <surak@surak.eti.br> To: germany-passenger-lists@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, August 4, 2011 7:33:33 PM Subject: Re: [G-P-L] Looking for which ship the Strube family went to Brazil.
