Hello All, I hope you had a good start into the weekend and the temperatures in your area are getting a bit more bearable.. Even here, in the "deep South" the nightly temperatures are " bone chilling".. :-( OK.. another topic.. ;-) I had a few inquiries about the "log in" into our databases. http://www.germanyroots.com/Ancestors_Database/ Whenever you want to edit any data or add new data, you have to re-enter all your personal details again, which could be quite a nuisance.. Of course, as always, there are several solutions to this problem and I would like your opinion on that.. The easiest way would be, that you allow your computer to accept "cookies". Then, whenever you enter your email address ( and/ or maybe an additional code number) your identity is being verified and you get access to the database.. That is an easy way and I can't see anything wrong with it, however, some computer users object to that and don't like anyone having access to their computers (well.. that would be a dream.. as soon as you access the internet with your computer, a sick "mayhem" may have access to your computer and enter anything he/she wants..) The other way would be, that you enter your email address. The database is then being queried if you are already a member. If this succeeds, you are presented with another page, where you have to fill in a special code and on verification you will have access to the database. But, unfortunately this has to be done again and again when you want to enter more data.. What are your opinions ?? Any other ideas ?? Have a nice weekend, Wolf
Hi Wolf I think the option to allow our computers to accept "cookies" is a bad idea. As this would allow any website to do this. That opens you to a lot of tracking from them & many other things. You can't just pick & choose which site to accept cookies on. It is either all or nothing. Re-entering information is probably the best & safest way to go on this.
