    3. Hi, I'm trying to find my great-great grandparents who emigrated to America around 1853. Several years ago I found a reference to them in this book: WEFFER, HERBERT, Auswanderer aus Stadt und Kreis Bonn von 1 81 4 bis 1 91 4. It is a transcription of the original immigration applications from the city of Bonn and its surrounds. On page 246 he lists the application made in 1853 by Heinrich Kuhl, his wife Sophia Kreutzer, daughter Margaretha Wilhelmina (2), and his son Peter (1 ). They had applied to emigrate to America. However, I have yet to find any record of them in America. Peter Kuhl, my great grandfather, wrote on several certificates I have that he was born in Detroit, Michigan, but I have copies of his birth record from Bonn in 1852. However, he may well have lived in Detroit and thought he had been born there. I know he set sail from San Francisco for Australia on May 11th 1873 aboard the Caesarewitch. From this I'm assuming that the Kuhl family did make it to America, but I have not found them on any shipping lists or in any census records. I have been able to go back along both the KUHL and KREUTZER family lines to the mid 1700s. The only gap in my knowledge is what happened to them between 1853 and the the time my great grandfather left for Australia. Peter Kuhl married an English girl in Australia and then anglicised his surname to COOL. Any help would be much appreciated! Bruce Cool Tura Beach New South Wales Australia
