I apologize to everyone who has tried to help me find Uncle Karl. It is so hard for me to not get interrupted, and then when I do it is hard for me to regain the thread of information. I have yet to follow most leads, but will try this week as my husband is travelling and I can stay up all night if I want!! Ursula, Again, thank you for all your work. Regarding your March 6 post below, a few years ago I found this ship manifest also and paid for a copy of it as I was very sure it was Uncle Karl, too. However, I did not follow this lead because the parent name was wrong (I know the Rotschild's were friends of the family, but for some reason he listed them as parents. This is all likely part of the mystery as to why he cut any ties with the family and left for the U.S.) and my mother didn't know of an Aunt named Doolittle. It looks to me like her town is Binghamton, NY. Do you think the addresses given in rows 5 and 6 are for Miss Doolittle, so I should follow up on them? What does it mean that Non Immigrant Alien was stamped under the Last Permanent Residence column? "The search for your uncle Carl was easier than you had anticipated. Unfortunately, the customs officer 'overwrote' some of the text on the passenger ship list but the from the data you will see that this is unquestionably your uncle Carl. I found him under "Carl Jaeger" at the ellisisland.org site. Here is the information: Carl Jaeger, 25, single, student, non-immigrant alien, last permanent residence Frankfurt/Main; born in Graudenz, Germany. Parents name and address: Idor [possibly Isidor] Rothchild, Frankfurt/Main, Allee 23. Sailing from Cherbourg, France on 27 April 1910 on the ship "S.S. Teutonic" arriving in NY 5 May 1910. Destination: Aunt, Mrs. Doolittle.....place name illegible...New York; I can tell by the name that he and his parents were Jewish, but am wondering why he had a different surname. According to his immigration status he had come under a student visa but may have later decided to stay in the US. I hope this puts some closure on this part of the family. You will now need to check whether he was captured by the 1910 census in NY and the two censuses following." Bettina
