    3. 12" new snow last night?I can imagine the wwindow sills will get a good white washing from the Robins. Wow. Glad we are in FL this winter. No shoveling here. Thankyou for the hints. I will follow up. I was in Belleville IL & visited the local Lib ,cemetery,(got pix),then to New Athens cemetery.I goofed on that.Roells lived in Floraville, across the RR Tracks from New Athens where the naughty ex grandson-inlaw lived w/ his new wife=#2.& is buried in New Athens Cem. Johann Roell was a Protestant Minister,.NY to WI where they caught up w/ him from Hausberge,Germany.  He was married in Ha usberge Westfalia & the wife he left in Germany sent a letter to his church in WI .At an inquiry where he admitted it,he was "Deposed" & he moved on to IL. When I dug up all this data I apparently opened a can of worms.Theres more interesting stuff. Its been fun. Roell was a minister in the NY Synod??Then WI Synod,I assume the Lutheran Church. In ILL he was in the S. IL Synod, which, that church is UCC now, but, NO help from that Minister at all. Not getting anywhere w/ UCC records. The grandaughter of Roell,=Amy  Roell-McCluskey ,born in Belleville IL was hard to track but,I found her  moved to PA then Houston TX.She was married late in life w/ no decendants .But where? Died in TX & moved her to be buried in IL w// her family. No leads on her spouse. Amy was my grandmas only sister.2 brothers,Waldemar & Carl. Thats as far as I got so far. Thankyou again for the hints. IL? I remember corresponding with a German man on the now defunct "Hessenland" forum who had done extensive research in St Clair County, IL and who subsequently published a book about the German settlers in that county. If you have the time and patience, you may want to read some of the archived posts on the Hessenland forum. You find it on the rootsweb site under 'Germany'. I miss the Hessenland forum, which was managed by John Merz, the German-Canadian, who is responsible for much of the research into the whereabout of the Hessian Soldiers who after the war of 1776/78 had fled to Canada. John Merz, who hailed from Gelnhausen, Germany, had visited his hometown to receive an award from the townspeople for all the work he had done in the past. Upon returning to St. Catherines, CAN he became very ill so that he was unable to log onto the forum. Then one day, his great-grandson came online and wrote that his "Opa" had died. So sad. God rest his soul. Coming back to St Clair Co, IL, if you haven't done so already, you may want to visit the "Illinois Trails" website as it has quite a lot of data on German immigrants. [What a shock when I woke up to see another 12 inches of snow on the ground and no place for the robins to find food! I hope it melts quickly before they all die!] Keep warm, Ursula. ____________________________________________________ There will come a time, when you'll have no more time. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phil Kuehn" <pkuehn38@comcast.net> To: germany-passenger-lists@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, March 23, 2011 9:36:27 AM Subject: Re: [G-P-L] schmidt / Oehler family bible info I  research for origin & family of grgrgrandmother,Louise C. Schmidt, b.1831,from Hannover, emmiigranted at age 14 ,assume w// family, thru New Orleans about 1845.1849 she wed Johann Heinrich Roell from Westfalia. She moved to Binghamton NY ,then  she & spouse & daughter Charlotte R oell moved to West bend ,Milwaukee County, WI.Later ,the family moved to New Athens ,St.Clair County ,IL where she died & is buried in  Belleville ,St. Clair County ,IL. ALong w/ most of her immediate decendants. I have found Schmidt surname everywhere they lived.Being its one of the most common surnames makes it tougher tto nail down. No other clues have been found to date. Thats why I follow up on most Schmidt surnames. If you could get on a website for Iowa or Minnesota I am sure someone would know them and contact someone that is interested in genealogy of the family.  That information is too precious to dispose of and if it were my family would pay for any price that you would have to give to find someone.
