Hello Bettina, The search for your uncle Carl was easier than you had anticipated. Unfortunately, the customs officer 'overwrote' some of the text on the passenger ship list but the from the data you will see that this is unquestionably your uncle Carl. I found him under "Carl Jaeger" at the ellisisland.org site. Here is the information: Carl Jaeger, 25, single, student, non-immigrant alien, last permanent residence Frankfurt/Main; born in Graudenz, Germany. Parents name and address: Idor [possibly Isidor] Rothchild, Frankfurt/Main, Allee 23. Sailing from Cherbourg, France on 27 April 1910 on the ship "S.S. Teutonic" arriving in NY 5 May 1910. Destination: Aunt, Mrs. Doolittle.....place name illegible...New York; I can tell by the name that he and his parents were Jewish, but am wondering why he had a different surname. According to his immigration status he had come under a student visa but may have later decided to stay in the US. I hope this puts some closure on this part of the family. You will now need to check whether he was captured by the 1910 census in NY and the two censuses following. Best wishes, Ursula ____________________________________________________ There will come a time, when you'll have no more time. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bettina" <bat@centurytel.net> To: germany-passenger-lists@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, March 5, 2011 8:40:29 PM Subject: [G-P-L] Karl Wilhelm Leopold Jaeger Thank you again for material and questions about Karl Jaeger. I will try to answer all here that I can. My mother died in 2009 and I am very sad that I didn't find Uncle Karl before she died. We have no relatives that I know of in Germany. She was possibly not remembering exactly when Uncle Karl came to the U.S. I assumed he used his first name because that is how she referred to him, so I am not sure about that. The family was living in Frankfurt, but he could have moved to another city, then boarded a boat to the U.S. He was born June 6, 1885. He had one brother, Wilhelm Karl Heinrich Jaeger (b 7/31/1887) and one sister, Charlotte Ottilie Katharine Jaeger (b 6/14/1889).
