    3. Hello All, just a reminder.. Rotsweb recently changed over to a new mailing system and there might be still a few glitches until everything is getting 'streamlined'. I already received a few complaints about the Digest mode. The standard setting for the Digest is 'text', where you receive your daily messages in a somewhat 'cluddered' list, one message after the other.. Before, you had them all in a kind of an envelope, with all separate messages. This is called 'MIME' format. If you prefer, you still can have this, but you have to email this to me, but PLEASE not over the list.. mailto:wolf@saxonyroots.com However keep in mind, some ISP's including AOL cannot handle this and the you could have problems... Have a nice afternoon, Wolf [Zscheile] ******************************************** Visit our homepage with ALL the latest NEWS http://www.saxonyroots.com ******************************************** -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. TO: G-P-L Mail List Members - Your response has been excellent. New names have been added to the Saxony Roots Ancestry Database. For your guidance: According to Wolf Z., the G-P-L List Administrator, "Whenever you add new data or edit existing data, you will receive a message that the information was submitted to the database." Furthermore, this information is sent on to him via E-Mail submission from the database itself. The authenticity of the "Submitter" is then verified. If you do not see your information show up immediately there is no cause for concern. The surnames are being accumulated and this process may take up to a week's time or more. Please check back. Your ancestral lineage IS important! Thank you for your understanding. 3. Hi Evelyn, The transcribers and proofreaders are volunteers who have scans of passenger lists from various immigration ships. They write down all of the names for a particular voyage. For your particular question for Hamburg to South America regarding your ancestor H. RIEGER you can search this database - but to receive the full passenger record they do charge a fee. Please read all terms and conditions. The entry line where it asks for a birth date does not work. Just so you know beforehand. The internet database "Link to your Roots" "DO YOU THINK HAMBURG MIGHT HAVE BEEN YOUR ANCESTORS EMIGRATION PORT" ? http://ltyr.hamburg.de/ & History: Emigration Port Hamburg: http://fhh1.hamburg.de/fhh/internetausstellungen/emigration/englisch/emigration_index.htm Good luck! They have changed their search functions: previously one was able to search for names by departure year. This function was discontinued some time earlier this year. If you enter a name you will get a listing of anyone who left with that name during the above mentioned time frame. The dates of the departures will not be displayed unless you register and pay for the information. 1. Re: [G-P-L] Selinger confusion
    2. rbbtfarm
    3. Just for clarification and additional requested info...... SELINGER family The best lead I have found is on www.saxonyroots.com. It had a Hermann SELINGER, age 17 on the Hansa, departed Hamburg Germany and arrived 14 June 1872 in NY via Liverpool. My family has a Herman(n) (George ?) or (George?) Herman(n) SELINGER or SELLINGER, born 11 Oct. 1854. The SELINGER or SELLINGER family I am researching was thought to have come from southern Germany, but there is also a possibility they came from somewhere else, including Prussia. ***parents.... August b. 25 Jan. 1825 in Germany? d. 14 June 1877 in Joliet, Will Co. IL. Wilhelmina (Minnie) b. 2 August 1824 in Germany ? d. 11 May 1889 in Joliet, Will Co. IL *** Children: Hermann George or George Hermann b. 11 October 1854 m. 26 Jan 1879 in Joliet, Will Co. IL to Eva Hollerung - this couple had 2 sons (Herman & Walter), but I also have a possible but unconfirmed 3rd son (George) d. 5 June 1932 in Joliet, Will Co. IL Julius b. estimated abt. 1860 moved abt. 1900 from Joliet, Will Co. IL and never heard from again. Oral runmor, he went to the Dakodas to hunt gold. There is no info if this son had descendants. There is a Julius on the DC Census, after 1900. He is a jeweler, married, and with 2 daus. I cannot prove or disprove him to be my Julius. Bertha Emilie (my maternal Grt-grndm) b. 18 July 1866 m. 23 Sept. 1886 in Joliet, Will Co. IL to Ernst (Earnest) Freidrich BARZ (BARTZ) They had 2 sons that died as children and three daus.(Alma, Hattie or Hedwig, and Loretta), all married, but only 2 had children. d. 1 April 1937 in Joliet, Will Co. IL I apologize that I did not site my research proofs. Firstly, we have a photo of the parents with one son and Bertha. I have a living Aunt, not too elderly, from this side of my family. I am the first generation on both sides of my family who was not born in Joilet IL, since 1870 or before. Even my brother was born in Joliet. In 2001, my Aunt, my husband, and I made a trip to Joliet. We went to visit the family graves, former homes, and other family sites of interest. I had already researched the Joliet City Directories from 1884-1892. More info was obtained from St. Peter (formerly Petri) Lutheran Church where my German families were members. My Aunt and I also went through all her family photos and documents before the trip. Graves of Wilhelmina and August SELINGER were next to Herman and Eva SELINGER with their two young sons. My Aunt had visited this small German Cemetery many times, as a child and as an adult. She knows these belonged to our family. So I am relatively (no pun intended) sure of the information I have so far. I do not have any information on any sibilings of August or of his wife, Wilhelmina (Minnie), nor her maiden name. I wish I had another lead such as that. I also keep hoping I might find some descendants of Bertha's brothers. That is assuming they had some and if they survived to be adults. I have seen the other SELINGERs, but they are not the same family, as far as I know. Also, my Herman in Joliet as a butcher is not the same Herman mentioned on the 1870 Hancock Co. Census, as far as I know. None of my SELINGER family was born in the US. Bertha was supposed to have been 6 years old when the family emigranted, which is why I am placing the family emigration in 1870-73 time frame. Thanks for the attempts to help.....
