do you what port they came into? Have you tried the Steve Morse site? it's free http://stevemorse.org/ellis/cg.html his castlegarden one has a Katharina Kunz Wife 34 F 25 Sep 1852 Netherland Edwina but she's too old - you probably know the different variations better than I do and might have better luck. I didn't try any of the other ports, maybe New Orleans? Did you try that Baden site? http://www.auswanderer.lad-bw.de/ maybe you can find them that way. do you know if she had a brother or sister? did you check her obit? if she had a brother maybe his Civil War record might have that info? sometimes it's pretty hard. I'm looking for my relatives, Hornungs. They had one child in 1840 in KY and two in MO, but by 1850 the father was dead, or at least not on the census - and Jacob lists his partents as being Bavarian on a later census - so I have no idea who his father is, what his mother's maiden name is and where in Bavaria they are from. the mother and sister's name are both Margaret and there are tons of them around... I know this is a German list, but I am on the mailing list of 1837online.com and this looks interesting. I have one ancestor who came to the States via Liverpool from Poland, so I figure this might be helpful to some of you. Julie Have you reached a brick wall with your family history research? Do some of your ancestors seem to have completely disappeared? If your ancestors emigrated overseas, 1837online.coms latest online project can help you track them down. I recently read the microfilm of the Herald Newspaper 1858-1907 for Pope Co., IL. There I found the obit of an esteemed German who became a citizen of Pope Co, IL. May 2, 1907 Obit April 24, 1907 at 12:10 o’clock, this community lost an honorable German citizen in the person of Fred C Bender, who died at his home, near Rosebud, IL. The deceased was born in Boenstadt, Grand Duchy of Hesse, Germany, Jul 11, 1831, hence was 75y 9m and 13 d old. He left his native land at the age of 14, and after spending four years at work on the seas, landed in the United States at New York and shortly afterwards came ______ 17,1855. He was married to Miss Christina Beger (Berger?), of Golconda, IL. About 20 years after, they moved on the farm where he spent the remainder of his life. Mr Bender had three brothers and two sisters, only one of which now survives, Richard William, of Hudson, New York. He was one of our most energetic and prosperous farmers, and by his careful management had acquired quite a lot of wealth. Our community has lost an honest, straight forward citizen and a charitable neighbor. His health had been failing for a number of years and he was confined to his room more than six months prior to his death. Ten children were born to him, five boys Wm, Charley, Frank, Richard and Fred, and five girls, Mesdames Ellen Reed, Mollie Joyner, Minnie Neimyer, Mary Hausemann and Anna Fowler, all of who, with the exception of Wm, have families of their own. Fortunately all the children were permitted to be at their father’s funeral. On Friday amid a large concourse of relatives and friends, Eld. D Noel conducted funeral services at the Baptist church, after which interment took place in the Antioch cemetery. He leaves an aged companion, ten children, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many friends. A friend. (mailto:germany-passenger-lists@rootsweb.com)
Sorry, unable to locate Gottfried on a passenger ship or 1850 census. Line number on census is meaningless since every page has a line 31. Perhaps you can send the number of visitation in front of his name or the page number. He may be listed in 1850 but neither Genealogy.com nor Ancestry.com has him indexed under that name. I found a Louis and Anna Hafner in Essex in 1850 but that's it. Gottfried must have died between 1850 and 1860 as in 1860 all that's listed is his wife Maria E Hafner and their 4 children. gwcolby@juno.com wrote: > Hello Ersula, > Re: Gottfried Hafner > > He appeared on the federal census for New Jersey (1850) for Essex County > (West Ward)..On Census of Aug, 20th (Line 31) Cabinet maker. I am requesting any assistance on locating information on Antoine/Anton/Anthony Stern - Sterns - Stearns Birth place Hessen, circa 1810. And/Or. Rosena/Rosina/Rosa/Rose Stuner - Stunner Birth place Alsace/Lorraine circa 1815. They immigrated to the USA between 1847 and 1853. I have yet to find them in any ship registry. They settled in the borough of Honesdale in the county Wayne in the state of Pennsylvania. The first record I find is in the 1860 Pennsylvania census, and later in the Illinois census. But to my dismay I have been unable to trace them to their point of origin. Any assistance would be highly appreciated.
