Is anyone on the list researching Johannes BIEHN (1652-1746/47) buried at Lower Skippack Mennonite Cemetery, Philadelphia Co. (now Montgomery Co., PA.)? He married Marieke/Mary (ArĂȘtes VanAchen) VANFOSSEN and they resided in Philadelphia Co., PA. Johannes bought land in Philadelphia Co. in 1727/28. A portion of the county (formerly Providence) apparently was "annexed" and eventually named Worcester Twp. Their children were Henry, John, Garrett, Conrad, Arnold, Adam, Christina, and Sibilla. Henry and John are named in Johannes' 1746/47 Will as well as his wife Mary. None of the other children are named in the Will. Johannes may have emigrated from Speisheim, Pfalz, Palatinate and certainly prior to the 1727 land purchase. I cannot find him on a ship manifest nor any other records. Name variants include BIEN, BIHN, BEAN. To date I cannot find any connection to the BOEHM spelling. Thank you for any help. Judy in CO.
Hi Jerrald, I appreciate the information and your time. Do you have any suggestions for tracing them back further? Hello Janet, It seems to me that you have a lot more research to do here in the US before you jump across the big pond. Remember, all records in Germany are kept at the local level and unless you know the name of the town that your ancestors came from you can forget about finding them over there. Your email does not provide clear information as to exactly who it is you are looking for. Your jumping from Indiana to Ohio without given any counties/townships or dates of birth for these people, making it extremely difficult for anyone wanting to help you. First it is important to find these people in a specific state/county/township and after you have established the family unity (with approx. dates of birth of children etc) you can then go on to try and find them on a passenger list. You're listing their name as 'WEIS' which in Germany was most likely written as WEISS; and what's up with the GEISLERs? How are they connected? If you can provide some detailed information you may not have to go with any fee-for-service site as there are enough volunteers (like me) out there willing to help. Ursula
Hi Wolfe, I have started to continue the work my mother (Ruth Weis Flournoy) did almost 20 years ago when she started looking into the family tree. She died in 1993, too early to benefit from all the information available on the web. I have been trying to find when my German ancestors came over but haven't found them on any of the free web sources. I have Jacob Weis Sr coming over between his birth in Baden in 1816 and 1846 when he married Francesca Eckert (born 05 Oct 1818 in Baden or Bayern) in Ohio (their son's, Jacob Weis Jr, death certificate listed her as Frances Von Eckert). I couldn't find Frances either. Nor could I find the Geisler's (Catherine Geisler, born 1849 in Indiana and her parents, George & Eleanor, who came over from Baden between 1834 & 1838) I think I have exhausted the free web sites so want to know which fee-paying sites or publications would be most informative. I also have a friend near Munich who could do some German language research if I knew the most productive sites (in fact we are going to visit her this weekend). Thank you, Janet Flourrnoy
Have you tried finding the churches through the LDS History Library near you? Bavaria is a large area but your best source is in church books. Perhaps the books in Indiana churches would be a good place to start. Some of our family's towns are listed beside their names in baptisms i. e. godparents and weddings. I understand the people at the LDS History library very helpful. Best Wishes

Hello Wolf, As I mentioned in my previous email to Mary Dess, the German saying that accompanies the woodcut of a 16th century POGNER contains words that are no longer to be found in any dictionary Wiki or otherwise. I have copied the text and sent it to the Wiki translator and I'm curious to find out what the results are. Here is my version of the translation: A good cross-bow I can make The columns I decorate diligently Covered with flowers/snow white leg With ???? or steel bows On top of that wind threads and a ???? That cannot be easily separated To be sure to meet the target The art Syrus we enjoy. I hope we can now put this subject to rest. I am trying to find a passenger ship listing for Eva Kuckenberg. She was born in about 1875 and lived in Wisconsin. Gretchen
10-08-06 Hi Ursula, I do not know the name of the ship. I know that he married Anna Gruber also from S. Bavaria on July 31, 1854 at St. Michael's in Buffalo, NY . They had one child Mary there and then moved to Clarion, PA.where they had more children. Nothing in newspapers, obits have their town, village or city. Martin Meisinger probably a cousin was a witness to their wedding. He also lived eventually in Clarion.I have a copy of their naturalization papers and Martin's passenger list. There is nothing on them except Germany and Bavaria. The National Archives searched twice and found nothing. Maybe they left from Hamburg. I am not near an LDS library. I have been looking for their place of origin for over 30 years. I noticed that their are records of the Buffalo Catholic Churches but I do not know how to access them. Can't research any further back than 1814 for Johann Meisinger. Fr. Sam's in Buffalo said that it did list Johann's parents as Joseph and Catherine Schmidtbauer Meisinger. He didn't have a record of Mary's baptism Thank you for your email. Della M. Meisinger >From: "Ursula B.
