    3. Hello Ann, You asked to be steered into the right direction regarding your search for your Charles JAEP ancestor. Firstly, you can forget about trying to find him on any passenger ship list around 1871 as this is not his date of immigration but rather his date of "naturalization". Charles Jaep and his parents appear already on the 1850 census! I ran a search on the family but have misplaced it...when I find it I'll contact you at your private email address. 1. Re: [G-P-L] Fw: Fw: Gottfried Hafner 1850 Census Essex County N.J.
    2. Ursula B. Adamson
    3. Hello, Following your initial query, I tried locating your Gottfried Hafner on a passenger ship list and also on the 1850 census in Essex County NJ, both without success. You wrote that Gottfried was married in Essex County in 1841 and that both he and his son, Gottfried Jr, appear on the 1850 census in Essex County. Do you have the name of the Ward or Township in which they lived? According to the index at Ancestry.com, there were only 2 persons by that spelling listed in Essex County, namely Anna HAFNER b.~1826 and Louis HAFNER b.~1822; both lived in the West Ward of Newark. On the 1860 census I found a Maria E HAFNER (48) b. Hessen, and children Caroline (16), Christiane (15), Louise (13), and John G. (11), but no Gottfried HAFNER senior or junior. How did you obtain your information? 3. Hi Ursula, sorry, I'm a little late with my answer.. which really is no answer.. I'm not to sure what to answer here, maybe you should ask the Rootsweb help desk, they are in a much better position to answer questions like this. As I can see it, the internet and mailinglists are so huge and sometimes you might get a 'traffic jam' in one of the distribution centers. The messages are put into 'storage' until the jam clears up, while in another center they go right through to the recipient... Does this make sense and answer your question?? Maybe some of our experts will have a better answer for you... Have a nice week and 'talk' to you later, Wolf -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. 2. Dear G. Colby: I'm sure people were not ignoring your request it is just that not any where near all ships lists have been translated. I have several such relatives. Many of the German records have been destroyed. You just have to keep trying and hope some day you find them. If you know where they came from try getting records from the church in that community or maybe they published a book about those who left the area. One never knows where you will find a piece of information that will lead you on. You may never find the ship they came on! -----Original Message----- From: germany-passenger-lists-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:germany-passenger-lists-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of gwcolby@juno.com Sent: Sunday, October 22, 2006 2:40 PM To: germany-passenger-lists@rootsweb.com Subject: [G-P-L] Fw: Fw: Gottfried Hafner 1850 Census Essex County N.J. 1. [G-P-L] What's new ??
    2. Wolf Zscheile
    3. Good evening, friends, well, what's new ?? Lots of things !! Due to 'overload' on my side, our ships and passenger list databases had been 'idling' for quite a while, but Kathleen and Russell have been very activ and started to give these projects a big 'boost' and we already added a few more ships and a lot of passengers. A BIG 'Thank you' to Kathleen and Russell !! And of course, a BIG 'Thank you' is due to our transcribers, who work silently and busily in the 'background' doing the sometimes 'impossible' task to transcribe something which had been written 100 to 200 years ago, by someone who didn't really know how to 'write'... You probably will not notice much difference in our websites, but the 'technical stuff' has been totally reworked. First, you will notice on the bottom of the 'starting page': http://www.saxonyroots.com/ships that the latest additions to our databases are listed there. Many of the place names now show a link to 'Mapquest' where you can see the location of that place and in doing that, I learned a lot of 'geography' myself. Another amazing thing is, that with Mapquest some of the places have a link in the upper right corner called 'Aerial Image'. With that you will have a look from space at that place and you can even 'zoom in' and can see the streets and buildings. Not all of the places have been 'linked' yet, but Jackie is working very hard to add the geographical data, which is a very time-consuming job... Thanks a lot for that, Jackie !! And.. there are lots of more changes coming soon, but we will talk about that later on.. I try to do everything as perfect as possible, but I'm sure, that there are some 'develish' bugs hiding somewhere.. :-( PLEASE give me a little help and let me know whenever you find one of them... Anyone out there having some knowledge with Excel and/ or PHP ?? and willing and able to give me a hand (or two) ?? This would even speed up the further development of our websites !! A note to our germanspeaking friends: We always claim, that our websites are 100% bi-lingual... Well, sorry, this is not completed yet, but will be soon... Thanks for listening and have a nice evening wherever you are, Wolf [Zscheile] ******************************************** Visit our homepage with ALL the latest NEWS http://www.saxonyroots.com ******************************************** -- No virus found in this outgoing message. OENSBACH or ONSBACH is just 3 kilometres in the south of Achern, today maybe an integral part of the village of Achern.
