    3. Ursula, I don't know what the problem is. I have earthlink and and new people who email me, if they are not in my address book it goes into my Earthlink suspect mail, then I simply add them to my address book. Most people get a reply from Earthlink about that. Besides that I get your emails all the time. End of subject. Maria ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ursula B. Postage airmail: Weight Small envelopes: EUR 1.70 Up to 20 g (approx. 0.7 oz, this is about 2 pages plus the envelope) EUR 2.00 21-50 g (up to 1.76 oz) Letter size envelopes: EUR 3.00 Up to 50 g (up to 1.76 oz) EUR 4.00 51-100g (up to 3.5 oz) EUR 8.00 101-500 g (up to 1.1 lbs) EUR 12.00 501-1,000 g (up to 2.2 lbs) EUR 28.00 1,001-2,000 g (up to 4.4 lbs) There is a good chance that this might increase again next year again. The German post office seems to make these decisions on December 30 going into effect on January 1. Particularly cute was the fact that my local post office did not have a 70 cent stamp until July this year, i. e. seven months after this postage mandatory and I had to put 4 different stamps on each envelope to come up with the necessary postage. For currency conversion I can recommend the website: www.oanda.com <http://www.oanda.com/> Good luck! 3. Hi, I've added the name I'm searching for to your list, but don't know if it will do any good. My family have been searching for any trace my great grandfather. As it is with many other family, I suppose, a lot of what we know has come down the family and been embelished and change in the retelling. What we think we know is that he was called Carl Albert George Temke. He turned up in the North East of England in the 1890s. He married my great grandmother in 1898 and went on to have a large family, most of whom were given Germanic names. He was interned during WW1 (of which there is no record). He turns up on the census in 1901 as Temp (my great grandmother was illiterate), place of birth Germany. We have found his marriage certificate that states he was a widow. What family legand says is that he was born in Heligoland in 1852. He left there to escape the Kaiser (legand has is that he caused much trouble and was against the Kaiser), became a seaman of some sort on a ship which was shipwrecked of the coast of Hartlepool. He and his crew were in the fever hospital which is where he met my grandmother. As I say, how much is true I don't know. We have seacrhed records via the internet etc for years, but it doesn't seem to have been a common name. Apparently he also spoke fluent Yiddish! I think I'm getting a bit deperante, but when I saw the words Germany Passenger Lists, I thought it might be worth a go. I'm sure that you'll probably tell me you can't help, but that's fine I'm used to it. Thank you for reading my ramblings anyway! Cheers, Gail Friskney

    3. Hello Ruth, I'll do the same from now on. I just discovered another one on this list who is doing the same thing. The only way you can end up in someones address book is when you send a reply but they don't seem to know this. The sad thing is that I did a very extensive search for one of the subscribers on this list who was desperate trying to locate her ancestor. When I was getting ready to send her the info and she refused to accept my reply without filling out some kind of form I just kept the info to myself...as you say, it's their loss. Ursula R. 3. Hello, The person who blocks her email and wants me to "get permission to send her a reply" goes by the name of "Maria" at mminear11@mcn.net. She just sent another email telling me that I should be able to remove the person [i.e. her] from the spam list myself! Maria obviously doesn't grasp the subject matter. Try to reply to her email and you'll see what I mean. Ursula

    3. Hi All I've had the "honor" of receiving some of those 'requests" myself over the years, several fromgroups ( members ... officials ) who I was trying to submit information to. Needless to say ... the ( updating ) data was never sent! It's sad that people are so afraid ( paranoid ) of contact, as to have to "use" such tactics ... especially those groups that are there for us to utilize their services. 1. Re: [G-P-L] Blocked email addresses
    2. Ursula, Are you referring to earthlink.net customers? If you are, I would like to tell you that I am one of their customers and am extremely happy with the way that they keep spam, etc away from my door. You can't have new people in your address book until you receive their first message. How else do you know who they are? I believe that all any earthlink.net customer can avoid the necessity of adding each and every person to their address book who are communicating to them via rootsweb.com. The should go to their Spam Blocker on their web mail for their web address in question. Select "Suspect Email" For a message received from rootsweb.com, select "Move to inbox and add contact". Next they will get a choice of what to add to their inbox. Instead of adding the person, there will be a choice to add a company domain. Most likely, there will be more that one domain that can be selected. Select "rootsweb.com" Do not select the others. If you select the person's domain (e.g. aol.com) then you will receive messages from anyone at their domain (e.g. aol.com). You are finished now on your webpage. The message will go to your mail folder but into the trash box. What I do here is to select all messages in their Trash Box, after I look at the names and sources, and add to my Inbox. If I don't take this step I can not select a webpage mentioned in an email to look at. This feature does not work from the Trash Box. >From now on, any message from rootsweb.com should go directly to your Trash Box and no one should be rejected and receive those rejection notices. 3. Have been distracted from looking for my ancestors, but have started the search again. They probably lived in Troy when they came to this country. The story has it that my grandfather Oswald Carl Buttig immigrated to the US to start a tannery business. However, a friend who was informed of his intention immigrated early and my grandfather was unsuccessful. I have been told that he made two trips to the US. In my search on New York Passenger list record, I find a Carl Bittig arriving May 29, 1886. I have a death certificate for him: born: April 16, 1856; Died: November 12, 1934, Widower, Wife's Name: Clara Pfister, Name of Father: Karl Buttig, Mother: Christina (Cristina) Richer (Riclier?) Registered #1057. I found them in the 1900 Census in Sand Lake, New York, name spelled: Battig. This listing includes the names of all the children. When I was in the Troy Court House, I found a listing of my grandfather citizenship, dated Februry 12, 1994. Unfortunately, I couldn't find his record: Aliens Declaration of Intention. This record gives: name, current address, mother's & father's name, birth place, occupation, where born, picture and a fingerprint. The Troy Court House records really needs some help to organize the records. I am still searching for the birth place of my grandmother and grandfather in Saxony, the Kingdom State (Sachsen, Kgr), Germany. Any help would be appreciate. Thank you for reading this long winded journal.
