Hi Clifford: I also found major misinterpretations of several passenger lists. How do we go about getting Ancestry to make corrections? Just yesterday I found "Jalint Masrshall, Florida" which was supposed to be "Jaluit, Marshall Islands." No wonder I've been having such trouble getting my Grandfather Schmidt from the islands to San Francisco! Greetings, For many years I have sought my granduncle Frank Raith born in 1885 in Bavaria Germany. Yesterday I used the free offer from ancestry.com. I found a Fung Raith. Looking at the original it was obvious it was Franz Raith, my man. All details on the manifest of November 1907 checked out exactly. The transcriber read Franz as Fung. Now I seek help for one Kreszenz or Creszenz Amberger born in Zenching, Oberpfalz, Cham, Bavaria in 1884 and came to USA, Langlade County in 1904. She was my grandmother. She married Michael Raith in 1904 and when he was killed by lightning in 1916 she married his brother Alois (Louis) in 1919. Alois was my grandfather. I have not been able to find her in any ship list and have not come up with any creative alternatives for name spelling. Who would have thought of Fung for Franz but when I saw the original manifest it was obvious. I welcome any and all help. Clifford Louis Bischoff Thank you for the person who discovered that my granduncle Wolfgang Raith was transcribed on Castle Garden site as Wolfgang Laith.
There is an option all the way on the right when you pull up the summary info and it says - Comments and Correctons - go there - you can offer up an alternative name. Good Evening, just got the info that Ancestry opened their database for Immigration until Nov. 30th. I found two entries but for more infos i must register first. But maybe someone is already registered and is able to have a look behind the curtains for me. I've found two entries for Lorenz Bendixen for which i like to know the ships name and if he travelled alone or with other family members. Lorenz Bendixen Birth: abt 1855 Departure: Hamburg + Le Havre Arrival: 13 May 1879, New York Lorenz Bendixen Birth: abt 1861 Departure: Hamburg + Le Havre Arrival: 11 Mar 1889, New York Thanks and Regards Malte (Witt)
Hi Malte, Lorenz Bendixen, born abt. 1855 travelled alone on the SS Wieland. He is from Denmark, no town given. The 2nd entry you found, is Lorenz on the SS Rugia. He is travelling with Line, age 19, occupation single and Christine, age 19 as well, occupation woman. The entries are really hard to read. I think they might be from Dortmund, Prussia. Hi Maggie: I realize I'm getting in on the end of this thread, but just last night I read about "LAURITZ/LAURITZEN from Schleswig-Holstein" who settled in St. Mary's Parish in Franklin Co., Louisiana in the 1870s. If this is of interest, I will send the entire article. Bev Colgin (moll1942@aol.com) mainly researching Brünjes, Hoffmeister, Moll, Mook, Reiher, Renken and Utz families.
I have found my great-grandfather's Declaration of Intention filed in Franklin, Texas-Robertson county- June 24, 1991. He was 73 years old when he filed. According to the document, EMIL CONITZ was born in Posen, Prussia August 24, 1845. There is a brief physical description and says that his wife, LOUISA (MEIER), lives with him in Calvert, Texas. He was a merchant. He emigrated to the U.S. from Bremen, Germany on the vessel "ADERMAL" or it could read "ADENMAL" (can't tell if that is an "r" or an "n".). He arrived at the port of New York on September 10, 1867. I wondered if anyone might have some information about this ship, and perhaps a list of passengers. We are trying to find out if EMIL traveled with a cousin, HERMAN CONITZ, who was age 14. EMIL was about 21. Another brand of the family heard that the two young men traveled together to New York, then went their separate ways-the younger man settled in Indiana while my great-grandfather settled in Calvert, Texas. I tried searching a little, but my computer is not working properly. The internet stays on a little while, then it says it can't find the server, and I can't do anything on the internet until I unplug it for a while. Then I have to start over. Thanks for any help. In case this might help someone else: I also found records for Emil Pietsch, living with wife Anna, who came to the U.S. from Zerpenschleuse, Germany in 1872, arriving in Galveston aboard the "Bremen"; Theodore A. Klawetter who arrived in New York in 1870 from Kolmar, Germany aboard the "Deuctschland"; Otto Meier, who arrived in Galveston in 1884 (there was little information given for him-a different form was used); and Oscar Peterson who arrived in New York in 1876 at age one year from Jonkoping, Sweden. His wife was Johanna Sjohlander or Shelander. No ship name was given. All of these people lived in Calvert, Texas. Johanna Sjohlander Peterson's cousin, Augusta Christina Eureaka (or it may have been spelled with an O) Sjohlander left from Jonkeping, Sweden and arrived in the U.S. via the Cunard Lines in 1878. She met her husband, Peter Franz, in Calvert during her visit to cousins, and remained in Calvert. While I was able to find other people of interest in the index at the courthouse, the actual books seemed to be missing. Cecelia Heinrich
I was just going to ancestry.com minding my own business and I got to this site http://landing.ancestry.com/immigration/main/?o_iid=24988&o_lid=24988&o_it=21416 and it says their Immigration collection has just tripled in size - and is available free until Nov. 30 Julie in CA --------------------------------- Sponsored Link Try Netflix today! I have some ancestors from Amorbach and Beuchen, Bavaria. In the US we list a city, county, and state to identify a location. I have looked at a number of maps and haven't been able to find the equivalent of a "county" for Germany. Somewhere I came up with Unterfranken for these towns, but can't find where any more. Can someone help me identify if this is correct, and more importantly, how to identify the "county" for other towns. Dwayne Awerkamp drawerkamp@cox.net

Thank you so much. I do not have Bernard's other given name, but I will keep this on hand for future reference. Bernard is supposed to have been born about April 1825. Also, Johann might be a brother, as another Enk researcher has found a John Enk who is supposed a brother. His birth year is supposed to be 1818, but anything is possible. Again, thank you.
