    3. I've been having trouble with my internet for a while, myself, Ursula. You might want to call your ISP or tech support because it could be on their end. Yesterday, my daughter went to our cable company and told them what my computer had been doing. (She had to go return a cable box.) They said that the new company that bought Cox, Sudden Link, has been working on the lines, servers, etc., so the cable has been on and off. Also, they said that my cable modem is really old, so I bought a new one. The first one I had only lasted until a few days after the 1 year warranty was up. In '04, I bought a used cable modem, with the same 1 year warranty. So, I guess mine was about due to go out. They told me to hook up the new modem today, as the cable would be off last night. I'm waiting until my grandson comes home from school, so he can help me! I was sure that I had broken something, but I guess it isn't me after all! The lights on my cable modem would go off; for several days, I got the same messages I had just deleted the day before; and after a short while on the computer (just long enough to read the e-mails and delete the junk), I would get messages that a timeout had occured and it couldn't find the server. So, I would unplug the computer for a while, then it started working again-just long enough to read through and delete junk. Everytime I got started doing anything that would take a little while, off it would go again. The worst thing was losing all the messages in my inbox that I was saving for the past 3 years. (I had deleted the ones I didn't need to save.) All I did was click the little X at the top corner of the page, to close the page, and all my messages disappeared! I've just been sick about that. If the new modem doesn't help, I guess I am going to be forced to call tech support. ( I hate to do that. I want a person right there to show me-and fix it if I don't know what they are talking about! I hate to talk on the phone, especially about something I don't know what I am talking about-or what the other person is saying!) Hope this helps. I just wanted to let you know that it could be your ISP instead of the list, etc. Cecelia in Texas > Hi Ursula, > > your email came in alright, but it looks like that you have problems > on 'your' end.. > Whenever you are not to sure about this, check with the archive: > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/GERMANY-PASSENGER-LISTS/ > > and we had at least a few messages every day... > >> I don't even receive any junk mail! > > ;-)) you might be one of the lucky ones.. > > Have a nice day, > > Wolf > >> Behalf Of Ursula B. 3. Hi Wolfe, I have a question that others, regardless of the "lists" they are on, might find informative. You stated, "Whenever you are not to sure about not getting msgs., check with the archive: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/GERMANY-PASSENGER-LISTS/ I have assumed that we can go directly to www.rootsweb.com and then scroll down to "Mailing Lists" and going to whatever lists we are looking for and get this information there. Is this correct? I have also assumed that the "Message Boards" are different info. The advantage I see in belonging to the "Lists" is the addtional expertise that would not be easily located by searching the archives. Also the inability to ask and get advice from experts like you. Just thought I would double check my assumption and maybe inform others of the correct answer. By the way, thanks to all the experts, like you. who educate me more and more with every msg. Tricia M.

    2. Hi Terie: Sorry I didn't get to your message sooner, thanks for responding. My mother (Minnie SCHMIDT) was born on Jaluit in 1916 and came to San Francisco in 1922. I knew her grandmother (Mary FOLIET) was a full-blooded islander (from the Carolines) and her grandfather, Capt. REIHER (as well as her father, Capt. SCHMIDT) was a German ship's captain. I'd been searching for the REIHER family for years and finally found them in 2001. In 2003, my daughter and I spent five weeks in the South Pacific (Fiji, New Zealand, Majuro, and Hawaii) visiting hundreds of relatives (several on each island). This past July, 144 of us came from all over the world (including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Kiribati and Kwajalein) to meet in Fiji for a fantastic reunion. I did a genealogy presentation and people really enjoyed seeing their long-lost relatives -- it was great! Although our plane landed on Kwajalein in 2003, we never got off the plane. In fact, the only people getting off were students going to Ebeye for the Xmas holiday! Unfortunately we didn't get out to Jaluit or Ebon, two of the islands I would love to have seen; my mother told me about them. The plane only goes once a week -- if you are lucky! In any event, I'm so glad to have found my German sea captains -- now I will search for Capt. Reiher's family in Flensburg, Germany. Enough of my tale. If you have any pictures or tales of the islands, I would love to see or hear about them. Thanks again for your e-mail. 2. Greetings, Ancestry is touting its additions and giving us a month of free usage. That has been helpful to me and I have found a number of people. However.....are there yet ships not listed? My grandmother Cresczenz Amberger came to the USA early in 1904. On May 14, 1904 she married shortly thereafter to Michael Raith. I have run her name in many different ways. Last night I learned that one does not need the last name. Run the first name and the ship name and "aha." Well, there has been no "aha" for me. Obviously in dealing with millions of names and thousands of ship voyages one could be misplaced. Or.....are there some not yet digitalized? C L Bischoff

    3. Hello, For some time I have been unable to find a grandmother on a ship list who was married in Wisconsin by a Lutheran minister in Nov. 1892. I have usually considered she came over on her maiden name, however, this discussion makes me think she may have married in Germany prior to hubands trip over (civil ceremony) and came over under a married name. Future husband came over in 1887,destination in WI being where his parents resided. The Wisconsin birth (alive) of the first child was in 1894 that I am aware of. Adding to this confusion is that their first names are August and Augusta and their birth years are the same. Thank you all for clarifying the legality of german marriages.
