Gail, thanks for your reply. It looks like your HAHNs were further east than mine. Kriftel is about 10 miles southwest of Frankfurt am Main near Hofheim am Taunus. We are told that the Kriftel HAHNs were in the town when it was founded over 1200 years ago (anniversary was in 1994). An historian told me that the they apparently left Kriftel for a period of time during the 30 years war in the early 1600s, but there is no indication as to where they went. Happy Hunting! Hi Marcia, Someone may have answered you already - so sorry if this is repeated. You may want to check this database of emigrants - Emigration from Lippe to the USA: http://www.lippe-auswanderer.de/htm/auswanderer-usa-eng.htm click on Data of Emigrants ... then also click on Orte/Namen for Place Names which start with the letter "B". There are 25 names listed for surname Fricke. This name was the closest to the person you wrote of in your message: Friedrich Wilhelm Simon Heinrich Fricke * 13.04.1847 in Berlebeck (?), Bauer Good luck with your research! Hi Frank, How are you? Have you checked the Archives for the Church Books (In Duesseldorf) ? Father: EDUARD SCHNITZLER Mother: EMILIE NEUMANN Son: ROBERT SCHNITZLER Christening: 28 JUN 1838 Evangelisch, Graefrath, Rheinland, Preussen (Ref: IGI - C948823) Kirchenbuch, 1690-1880 Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche Graefrath; (Author: Kr. Solingen) To find out the newspaper their marriage announcement appeared in you'd have to write to this address: Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Illinois Regional Archives Depository Ronald Williams Library Northeastern Illinois University 5500 N. St. Louis Avenue Chicago, IL 60625-4699 ...and reference the "FINK Index" in your letter with the following information: SCHNITZLER, ROBERT & HEISIG, FRANCESCA M 06/06/1869 VOL.: 001/ (Fink Index) County: COOK They will let you know the name of the newspaper in Chicago in which the announcement was published. The next step is to research the particular newspaper name and publisher which the Depository will indicate in their response to you. The article may or may not verify his place of birth and/or parents as mentioned above. Their Marriage Record was destroyed in the Chicago Fire so this particular "Fink Index" is a re-creation of all Marriage announcements which appeared in the newspapers. My thanks to all who posted. I did make it through, thanks to your kind direction! This is the first free trial I've done there without having to give my credit card. Pretty nice! I've yet to find the ancestors I'm looking for, but did find a few I'd given up on, so worth the trial. I subscribed years ago when Ancestry was pretty new. Amazingly, with the many records they've acquired, I still can't find some of these people, but like I said, found one that I never thought I would, at least in a couple of censuses. No, I'll never give up, will just keep plugging away. I appreciate the guidance, because of all of you I did find something! Susan

Greetings; My name is H. Conrad Luhmann, I am retired and live in Wilmington NC. I am looking for information on my Grandfather Henry Conrad Luhmann (or Lühmann). The information I have shows he was born on July 16th 1855, the son of Christina and Elizabeth Luhmann of Germany (no other location noted) I have found him on both the 1900 US Census and the 1905 New Jersey Census. He married Annie Evermeyer, a German native and had a farm in Secaucus New Jersey. I know he had a brother Ernest Luhmann also of Secaucus New Jersey. Ernest was born on October 22, 1864 and apparently came to New York NY in 1880, no other info given. I am trying to find out when and from where my Grandfather came to the United States. Any information or direction you can supply would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Conrad Conrad Luhmann 910-799-2139 cluhmann@ec.rr.com

I have tried for several years to find my Greatgrandmother, WILHELMINA MOTTSCHALL, on a passenger list. She was born 24 June 1832 at Stuttgart, Necka, Wrtt. Germany according to her son. She is suppose to have came into New Orlean, La. on a steamboat. Then up the Mississippi River to Muscatine, Iowa where her Brother lived. I have no date for her arrival. I know that she married GOTTFRIED KNIPFER at Muscatine, Iowa, 9 May 1861. They finally moved to Iowa Co., Iowa and that is where they both died. Wilhelmina in 1904 and Gottfried in 1914. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you.
