    1. [G-P-L] Kuhl family
    2. Cool, Bruce
    3. Hi, I am researching my Kuhl ancestors. My great grandfather was Peter Kuhl, who came out to Australia in 1873. He boarded a ship, the Cesarewitch, in San Francisco and sailed to Melbourne. He changed his surname to Cool in 1879 when he married. His death certificate lists his parents as Heinrich Kuhl and Sophia Kreutzer. I have found a reference to them in the archives at Bonn. They emigrated to America in 1853. They had two children at that time, Margaretha Kuhl, aged 3, and Peter, aged 1. This ties in with the age of my great grandfather Peter, who was born in 1852. Peter Kuhl stated on the birth certificate of his first child that he was born in Detroit, but the records from Bonn indicate otherwise. The family may have lived there when he was a child. I have not been able to find any trace of the family in US records. Any help would be much appreciated. Bruce Cool Canberra Australia

All the BLANKINGs in the UK stem from one person, namely Johann Heinrich BLANKEN who arrived in London on the 2nd September 1836 age about 18. I understand he came over from Hamburg on the ship “Columbine”, a sugar baker from Hannover. Somewhere along the line it appears he could have lived in Kirchtimke but I am not certain. On his marriage certificate (to Sarah Jenner) in London he names his father as Henry, a farmer, presumably still living in Germany if alive. I would like to know how long it would have taken to travel from Hamburg to London in those days; what would the conditions be like on the ship, etc. etc. and also if he did come from Kirchtimke. Would like to hear from anyone who can help. Regards Pearl Blanking -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. 3. Hi Wayne Thank you for your efforts in trying to find the ship my mother came to America on. I have had no luck in finding any of the Dellner family in all the sites I have searched. Perhaps when Dresden was bombed, some of these documents may have been destroyed, but I will keep trying. I have a cousin in Dresden, but she is also second generation and does not know too much about my mother's immigration. My mother left Germany because I was told she was jilted by her boyfriend over there, so came to Canada to forget it all. She was barely over 5' feet tall, she did have blond hair and blue eyes. As far as I was told she arrived here in August 1924 and married my father in October of the same year. They homesteaded in the northern wilderness and I was born 7 years after they were married. I did find the ship that her sister came over here on, Elsbeth Hieke, so was able to add that to the family tree. Thank you ever so much for all your efforts, it was very much appreciated. Dorothy

    3. Hi Dorothy; The following is the closest I could find on Ancestry.com. It has a number of problems, not the least of which is that this Martha is married with a child. Sorry, but it was the best I could do. Its a shame since this is more info than I can ever remember seeing on a passenger list. 1. [G-P-L] Immigration to Canada - 1924
    2. dorothy ward
    3. Hi: I have been searching many ships list to try to find the ship and passenger list that my mother immigrated to Canada on, probably in August 1924. My mother's name at the time was MARTHA OLGA DELLNER, born in Dresden, Germany on March 28 1901. She immigrated to America, possibly arrived at a Canadian Port or New York. Her destination was probably Eagle River, Ontario or Waldhof, Ontario. She was more than likely travelling alone. I do not know the port of departure or port of arrival. She may have given her occupation as a domestic worker. She had been corresponding with my father, ARTHUR TITZE, for some time and was immigrating to Canada to marry him. The DELLNER name was originally DELLNER GENNANT SUSSEMILCH, but the family had dropped the "gennant Sussemilch" when Martha was a child. Martha was the daughter of Minna von Riethausen and Paul Dellner Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much. Dorothy

    3. I want to Thank, Kathleen and Wayne for the info they sent me! I have looked at those census but it was at A Family History Center and I was trying to find as much as I could in the time I had and I see that I missed a lot that I should have seen! I have Ancestry.com now so I went back and looked at them after your messages. I really don't know how I missed so much. I don't know if it will help me find Wilhelmina on a Passenger List but at least it is info that I didn't have. Thank you again. 3. Hi Dorothy and Nancy, MICHAEL (MICHEL) is a rather common name in Germany. So it is not a surprize finding people with this name in their ancestors' lines - like me. My mother's maiden name is Dorothea Hildegard Michael. Our Michael line comes from the Oberlausitz area in Saxonia.
