    1. [G-P-L] Welter/Welder surname
    2. I'm looking for the home, departure date and location, and any other relevant information about my gg grandparents. I've been researching this for more than a decade and would appreciate any possibly relevant information. What I know about them follows: 1. Johan Welter, born about 1807 in Prussia, died in Marion County, Indiana in October 1879. 2. His wife was Christiana Maria Hamer/Horner was born about 1805 in Prussia and she died in Marion County, Indiana in March of 1876. 3. They brought with them to America five children, each born in Prussia: Elizabeth (b. 1834), Christian (b. 1839), John (b. 1842), Emma (b. 1844) & Margaret (1851). 4. According to the 1860 US Census, they were farmers and were living in Marion County, Indiana. 5. In US Census records, they arrived in 1853 and all listed Prussia as their birthplace except Christian whose place of birth is Hannover. 6. They were members of St. Johannes Evangelische Kirche in Warren Township, Marion County, Indiana. Family oral history says they came from “Grafsolms, near Cologne”. According to German researchers, this cannot be a place name. I believe English ears heard a German voice say something that sounded like "Grafsolms". Nancy in CA

    3. Hi All, Gabi from Germany is looking for some help and she would very much appreciate any information about the HOMILIUS name.. Please note: Gabi is NOT a member of this list. If you are able to help her, please answer privately : mailto:GabiFinke@gmx.de Ok, let's Gabi 'talk' : I search for all people with the HOMILIUS surname. The First HOMILIUS is Heinrich von der Hohen Mühle. He was born around 1500 and moved in 1559 from the 'Dithmarschen' with 3 sons and 1 daughter to Saxony. His descendents were over 200 years high ranking persons in public life. Today there are still 56 HOMILIUS living in Germany, a few in Denmark and a few emigrated to the USA. I did an intensive research on the ancestry.com website and below I will list the HOMILIUS I found there. I did find there 2 different lines, but WHERE did they come from ?? Are there still any HOMILIUS living in the USA ?? Here are all the immigrants that are known to me: A)))) ──, Hermann F., ev., Farmer in Texas, * um 1876 ? │ └─oo um 1900 mit NN., Maria Elisabeth . │ ├─HOMILIUS, Eduard, ev., Farmer in Texas, * 14.05.1904 in Kerrick, TX † 02.03.1978 in Kendall/TX │ │ │ └─oo 1932 in Kerrick, TX (?) mit BIERMANN, Ida. │ │ │ ├─HOMILIUS, Elmer, ev., * 03.11.1932 in Kerrick, TX † 15.10.1984 in Kendall │ │ │ │ │ └─oo vor 1959 in Gillespie,IL(?)mit SCHMIDT, Vernell Cora │ │ │ │ │ ├─HOMILIUS, Esther, ev., * ... in Gillespie, IL │ │ │ │ │ │ │ └─oo ... mit ALLERKAMP, NN.. │ │ │ │ │ ├─HOMILIUS, Deyl Lynn, ev., * 15.01.1957 in Gillespie, IL │ │ │ │ │ │ │ └─oo ... in Kerr/TX mit REEH, Steven M.. │ │ │ │ │ ├─HOMILIUS, Annette Ann, ev., * 11.01.1959 in Gillespie, IL │ │ │ │ │ │ │ ├─oo 1/1 ... in Kerr/TX mit VANOSTRAND, Glenn W.. │ │ │ │ │ │ │ └─oo 2/1 ... in Kerrick, TX mit COSPER, Mark W.. │ │ │ │ │ └─HOMILIUS, Lisa Mae, ev., * 17.12.1962 in Gillespie, IL │ │ │ │ │ └─oo ... in Kerr/TX mit TINNEY, James H. 3. Kathleen, I am interested in your reply to Chuck as regards an approach to take to obtain passenger manifest information from the Historisches Museum Bremerhaven / Deutsche Auswanderer-Datenbank. In my case, the passenger records in question would be for the May 1872 time period from Bremen to Baltimore, USA. Can you take this one step further & supply the name, location, e-mail and/or postal address for a University that would be within a reasonable distance of the above referenced Museum. I would like to try this approach, using a student as a researcher/resource, but I am at a loss as to just how to proceed with the logistics of such a search effort. Thank you, Bette > > Have you contacted the Emigration House at the Museum? > Here is their contact information: > > Historisches Museum Bremerhaven > Deutsche Auswanderer-Datenbank > An der Geeste > D-27570 Bremerhaven > Phone +49 471 30816-0 > Fax +49 471 5902700 > > info@deutsche-auswanderer-datenbank.de > info@historisches-museum-bremerhaven.de > > Another idea would be to contact the University which > is closest to their facility and see if a student > would be available to go there in person for you - > after the holidays. >From: "kajh" <kajh76@yahoo.com>

    3. Hi Chuck, Have you contacted the Emigration House at the Museum? Here is their contact information: Historisches Museum Bremerhaven Deutsche Auswanderer-Datenbank An der Geeste D-27570 Bremerhaven Phone +49 471 30816-0 Fax +49 471 5902700 info@deutsche-auswanderer-datenbank.de info@historisches-museum-bremerhaven.de Another idea would be to contact the University which is closest to their facility and see if a student would be available to go there in person for you - after the holidays. The National Archives here also has immigration records. Have you contacted them? Here is their information: The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Available 1800-1959 Immigration Records: Years covered for Hawaii: Honolulu, Hawaii, 1852-1952 http://www.archives.gov/genealogy/immigration/passenger-arrival.html NARA Contact Information: http://www.archives.gov/contact/ I noted The State Archives of Hawaii were supposed to have their manifests on-line by the end of this year of 2006. Have you asked them how far along they are with their project? Also, do they hold any other type of information such as the contractor information of the company who brought the workers over to the islands? I hope you are able to find out some more information. Best of luck! Kathleen ____________________ --- Chuck wrote: " ... This ship left Bremen / Bremerhaven on 2/28/1883 arriving Hawaii Apr. 28, 1883 ... ... H. 1. [G-P-L] Ship Ehrenfels - Feb. 28, 1883 sailing
    2. Chuck
    3. This ship left Bremen / Bremerhaven on 2/28/1883 arriving Hawaii Apr. 28, 1883. The 800 + passengers were primarily contract workers who were to be divided between two plantations on Kauai. The passenger manifest available in Hawaii simply lists passengers by initial of first name and last name; ie; H. BISSEN with no reference to birth town / last residence etc needed to find data on his family in Germany. Can someone put me in touch with a volunteer researcher in Bremen area who can tell me if the records in the Bermerhaven Genealogy Museum would include a copy of this ship manifest and the data I need to continue my research. Henry William BISSEN was born 18 Sept. 1865, place unknown, has extensive descendants but no ancestors at this time. Any help, advice or recommendations will be very much appreciated.
